Do you remember your first hair crush? Who was the first man or woman to make you drool over his/her texture, sheen, or swagger? Who was it that made you want to embrace what nature gave you?
Mine were Scary Spice and Aaliyah first. When I started to go natural in the beginning of 2009, it was Janet Jackson("If" video,)and Luam,(a choreographer.)and they still are my hair crushes…along with Nikkimae2003 and Taren916.:)
I so have a hair crush on Corrine Bailey Rae!! When I first started going natural a few years ago was a little before she became really popular in the States! I love her hair!! I love my hair too!
Okay my first hair crush was definitely Lloyd. He made me want to grow out my hair and get it healthy like his so we could be long hair don't care together.lol
Tracee Ellis Ross. Even when I was relaxed. I admired her hair, and the styles she would do, on 'Girlfriends'. I also loved how 'big' it was. I didn't really see it as her being natural then, but saying oh 'she has hair like that because she is mixed'.
Of course I know better now, and I still admire her hair. Mine may not be as loose as hers, but it doesn't mean mine is any less beautiful 🙂
Lisa Nicole Carson was my mom's hair crush. I remember that well:)
My hair twin was Rudy Huxtable when she wore that big, fluffy ponypuff.
My hair idol was Yaya DaCosta and before that,
Even though she wasn't my hair idol, I appreciated seeing Traycee Ellis Ross' hair b/c hers was the first head of natural hair I saw on TV regularly since the Cosby show.
honestly, many of you have named all of my hair crushes. lol. my first hair crushes was Diana Ross, Whitney Houston (before the crack and Bobby– love ya, Whit), and Chaka Khan. and of course OPRAH (miss her already, sniff). There was a girl in college who had big natural hair and I always wanted to go there to natural world too just by seeing her. My other hair crushes include Chime, aka "hair crush", Eva Pigford from ANTM, Yaya from ANTM, Lisa Bonet, the late Aaliyah (who was natural but straightend her hair), Tatyana Ali, Chilli from TLC, Tracey Ellis Ross, velvet halo (whose fotki page was the catalyst that made me say I can go natural and have gorgeous hair, MopTopMaven, Rustic Beauty, TraNaturally, ChiselleCouture, CurlyKatrina, and many others I can't name right now b/c I can hear the music playing like I am at the Oscar's (lol), and of course CurlyNikki, whose blog kept me going on my transitioning journey.
Tia and Tamera Mowry back in the sister sister days. Then Kelis, I LOVEDDD Her long twists in her "trick me" video. I loved tracee ellis ross as "joan" from girlfriends. There was a girl in the dreams 1st music video. Ermm.. I saw curly nikki for the first time on Tyra show… and Taren916 most recently.. AND ChiselleCoture of course! and Bree from ANTM.. MAN I loved her hair!
I would say both sisters from Half & Half Show, Ananda Lewis from Mtv are just a couple for me that I liked.

Without a doubt – KELIS! That "Caught out there" video had me chopping away at my relaxed ends to embrace my natural hair. Sadly we don't have the same texture.
But my second hair crush, a lady featured on Le Coil (Chelsea) prompted the final decision to go natural (the second time) and embrace my texture in all its glory.
I bigchopped almost 8 years ago. I loved his hair…the lustre, the shine, the coils…I liked the camera closeup shot of his hair in interviews and music videos lol. His hair helped me to realise the beauty in natural hair.
I also liked Joy Denalane's hair (she's a German soul singer), at the time her hair was waist length, BIG, and curly…she's cut her hair since, but her hair circa 2003 is still my hair inspiration.

I agree with mostly all of the previous posts, but my most recent hair crushes are from The Wire (I am a lifelong and beyond fan). Kima (Sonja Sohn), Orlando (Clayton LeBouef), and believe it or not Bubbles (Andre Royo)! Would love to have Clayton's and Sonja's soft, bouncy, wavy texture and length, but my hair is much more "Bubbly" and I do admire it.
And I adore Nikkimae2003 (Natural Chica)—she keeps me inspired.
Singers Maxwell and Lenny Kravitz (when he had locs) were probably my first hair crush I can remember. I didn't want their hair per se, but I loved looking at it! I wish Maxwell would grow his wild afro back. I loved that look on him. I don't recall having a female hair crush at all. I typically try not to wish for what other women have, as it tends to lead to some self-esteem issues. I only want to look like myself and not a carbon-copy of some other female. But, I do admire women that take great care of their natural hair.
Kelis
Way back when she first came out I thought she had the most awesome hair I had ever seen. More recently – Leela James. It takes some truly significant for me to have a hair crush on someone because I am more focused on trying to become my own hair crush
I don't know this girl's name, but when I saw her hair, my breath caught in my throat and I had to clutch my pearls. It's the profile pic for the I (heart) Natural Hair Facebook page.
I was so in love with Corinne Bailey Rae's hair. Her voice gave me chills, but her hair made me do flips.. I can't wait for my hair to grow so I can use some of the styles that she wears!
Tracee Ellis Ross, although she's changed her hair a lot since "Girlfriends" and has done a lot of heat styling. She still gets the credit for my original hair crush. 🙂
Janet Jackson in the "That's the Way Love Goes" video. Cree Summer in A Different World. Rachel True from Half and Half. And of course Tracie Ellis Ross!Too many to list! 🙂
I didn't have a hair crush when I went natural. I have hair crushes on some that have been mentioned, but longhairdon'tcare2011 on you-tube should get a nod. Her hair is awesome!
Taren916! She was the very first person I discovered in the YouTube community.. Love her carefree personality! She inspired me to go natural 🙂
Oh! And Chissellecouture! She had endless style tutorials ! Wish she was still on YouTube : /

My first hair crush was Ms. Nicole Crowe aka Moptop Maven. That hair..so thick and dark and long. And she is a beautiful person. Love her. Sad she no longer updates..miss her
Did you know that Nicole (Moptop Maven) is real sick with Wilson's Disease her last hi to everyone was Feb 22, 2011.
Amel Larrieux!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drops the mic! That girl had my curls and knew what to do with them. The side part slick back in sweet misery became my chic look and her curly fro in tell me is my wash n go and her flowy looks like a blow dry or stretch braid out is still something I am trying to figure out! I just love her and her music and her hair
My first hair crush was Maxwell, when I first say him in "Till the cops come Knockin" video!! OMG!!! I loved his fro, braids, ponytails!!! I saw him in concert in 2003 and he wore a tam! I was so mad!! I was screaming take off your hat! LOL!!
It was Lauryn Hill of the Fugees and it took a llllllllllong time before I decided hmmmmm, maybe I could do that! In early July 2010 while realizing it had been 3 months since my last relaxer, and discovered while randoming searching on YouTube and I saw RusticBeauty, CurlyChronicles and then CurlyNikki and still others and I said alrighty then…natural hair here I come!
my very first haircrush was bernadette peters! she had really tight pencilspirals back in the day and she wore this wine colored lipstick, I looved her hair!I love curly hair its beautiful!!!!
My first hair crush was my best friend! She had the biggest baaaaadest afro and I said oh I have to have that! She was the spark that started this whole natural journey of mine!!
My first hair crush was mos def. Corinne Bailey Rae… I spent years trying to curl my hair like hers with perm until I found out she was natural…so now i'm natural and it doesn't look anything like hers but now I love my hair more.
kimmaytube. She was the icing on the cake to make me finally say "yes" to natural hair. I watched all her videos and tell all naturals i run into about her. i still love her!
I know a lot of people say Tracee Ellis Ross, but mine is Diana Ross. When I was a kid in the 80's, I remember my mom watching Mahogany on TV, and me seeing Diana Ross for the first time,I remember thinking she was such a beautiful black woman overall head to toe (of course, not more beautiful than my mama, but that's another post). I just love the fullness and freeness of her hair. I love Tracee's hair too, but it all came from her mama. 🙂
I've always loved Cree Summer's hair (A Different World)…OMG…STILL LOVE IT. As for YT 'celebs' lol I LOVE Bronze Goddess' hair. LOVE LOVE LOVE. 🙂 Love curlynikki's hair too! 🙂
Kemi21 (a.k.a. Aijo) on fotki. Her hair hypnotized me and the simplicity of her regimen and styles made it seemed attainable that my hair could one day look like that and that I could "manage" it. After various visits to her page, I got the confidence that I could grow out my TWA without resorting to a relaxer later for "manageability" as I had done 3 times previously.
Wow, there are so many but as far as male hair crushes it has @ be Eric Benet & Maxwell and of course, the Diva of sexy hair has 2 be Tracie Ellis Ross and lastly, Taren916 from you tube I love her "Big gorgeous hair" and honestly, she made me big chop after 3 years when I saw that she was not afraid to BC after havign such beautiful hair. Natural Hair really rocks:)!!!
The Mowry twins- I loved their curly styles and their straight styles. I remember as a young child wanting to wear my hair big when then did and wanted a relaxer to be straight like when they were straight. They are honestly one of the reasons I got a relaxer in the first place. And I cant forget NaturalChia/ NikkieMae I LOVE HER HAIR! She inspired me to let go of the weave and learn to style my own hair =)
Lauren Hill. When I first saw her Senegalese twists and showed the pic to Mom, she was like "Absolutely not." But I knew ONE DAY I would have them. *big grin*
A curly haired lady I saw at the supermarket. Her curls were Beautiful and from that point on I new I wanted to embrace my curly hair, but I didn't embrace it for like another 7years after that but I never forgot her hair.
YOU Nikki!!! I've been natural 11 years and I've admired the hair of others over that time. But I didn't "aspire" to or stalk anyone's hair until I discovered you!! LOL!!!
My first celebrity hair crush was Rachel True. I was and still am in complete awe of her luscious hair. My first real life hair crush was one of my cousins. To this day I still haven't seen anyone with hair as amazing as her's. My head is spinning just thinking about it.
this chic on my bus. i used to see her on the way to work. she had a seriously massive amount of hair all twisted up in long fat juicy twists. i was like *gasp* I'M DOING THAT! i started transitioning that day lol.
I think that my first hair crush may have been Tracee Ellis Ross back in the days of Girlfriends. Last summer, I discovered Chime/HairCrush's fotki, and I was like, "Gahhh! Her hair!" However, the natural who inspired me to not go for my touch-up a couple months back was MopTop Maven.
After seeing Hair Crush's long hair, I wondered if I could do that, but I didn't see how I could do that with my shoulder-length (relaxed) bob. Then I saw MopTop Maven's flexi rod tutorial back in March (I was two months post relaxer then), and it made sense to me that I could manage the different textures simultaneously without having to using a blow drier or flat iron on the "new growth."
Corinne Bailey Rae was and still is mine, even back when she had short hair in her "Put your Records on" video! Now her hair in the video, Paris Nights/New York Mornings is to die for!!!!
I don't know my first hair crush's name…She was a random woman I saw in Old Navy. Her hair was GORGEOUS. It was big and curly and full. I kinda followed her in the store, just to look at it. As I stood behind her at the check out line, I thought to myself "I'm gonna get my hair like hers". I was relaxed at the time…6 months after that I started my natural journey…Thanks Old Navy Lady…where ever you are 🙂
Funny enough, Corinne Bailey Rae was my first hair crush! I literally decided to go natural after seeing her and watching every youtube video on her. Later, I fell in love with others.
i cant even remember my first crush! and with all the pics i look at these days i cant remember my last either! but i do have a healthy appreciation for hairlines that are in tact as mine is damaged and i love long, thick twist outs!
My first hair crush was Imani Copolla, from Little Jackie, I was sooo jealous of her because I am biracial like her but I thought my hair wasn't "good enough" to look like that. How little I knew! LOL now the term "good hair" makes me cringe!! LOL. Now my hair crushes are Chime (haircrush from youtube) and Napturan85 from youtube. Also Taren916, loved her big bossy hair and that she isn't afraid of taking risks!
My first hair crush was Ms. Nicole Crowe aka Moptop Maven. That hair..so thick and dark and long. And she is a beautiful person. Love her. Sad she no longer updates..miss her
My first hair crush was my 15 yr old daughter. After seeing the life and originality in wearing her hair natural, I decided to give it a try. Nikki, you were my second because I would have never known what to do without this blog. Keep up the GREAT work!
Back in the 80's when I used to watch "A Different World" I LOVED Cree Summer's hair! Now, it's Anjanue Ellis, Ledisi and India Arie, and Iyanla Vanzant. I just love natural hair!
When I first decided to go natural I didn't have a hair crush, I just wanted to explore my texture. But when I started YTing and blogging, I must agree Anon 10:37 and say that Natural85 has the bossiest, sickiest hair I've seen. I love her hair because it's similar to my texture and she uses all natural products :). I've found that it's crazy to drool and pine over someone whose texture my hair will NEVER be.
My first hair crush was for Bob Marley's hair. Didn't find him attractive but his locs I fell in love with. And then came Ms. Lauryn Hill with a glorious head of hair.
Traci Ellis Ross getting her Joan Clayton in on Girlfriends. She had so many styles and kept it fresh and professional as a lawyer, but my fave look on her was when it was wild and free.
I remember as a young teen (when my hair was relaxed), I had a hair crush on Tracee Ellis Ross ("Joan" from the show Girlfriends). I loved how HUGE her hair was! I always just told myself that my hair would never be like that because she must be "mixed" or just has really good hair.
Little did I know, I can achieve a similar look with my natural hair by just doing a bantu knot out 😀
Tracie Thoms, Ananda Lewis, Rachel True, Bre Scullark
Wanda Sykes
Bre from ANTM!!
My hair crush nd still to this day iz Ms.Marsha Ambrosias frm floetry now she is Solo I love her so. ( Nicole )
Mine was naptural85 i still love her lol but i love my real hair more
Mine were Scary Spice and Aaliyah first. When I started to go natural in the beginning of 2009, it was Janet Jackson("If" video,)and Luam,(a choreographer.)and they still are my hair crushes…along with Nikkimae2003 and Taren916.:)
Tracie Thoms was my first. i also loved Kelis' hair.
I so have a hair crush on Corrine Bailey Rae!! When I first started going natural a few years ago was a little before she became really popular in the States! I love her hair!! I love my hair too!
I stopped pressing my hair at the end of highschool and was inspired in part by Scary Spice.
my first hair crush was and still is Mwdezi on fokti – her hair is sooooo drool worthy!!!!
Win a stash of natural hair goodies in my blogging anniversary giveaway

Kelis….loved the BIG I don't care do. And She was sporting her curls in pink! Gotta love that.
I love Nikole Crowe of moptopmaven, Dominique of youtubes nique1076 and loveislandbeauty of youtube
Okay my first hair crush was definitely Lloyd. He made me want to grow out my hair and get it healthy like his so we could be long hair don't care together.lol
taren916! i love her channel
goapele. i love her locs. she made me consider it, but i never took the leap.
jill scott, marsha ambrosius when she was rockin it natural with floetry
Taren916, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Leela James. Beautiful ladies!!!
AFROBELLA!!!
Tracee Ellis Ross. Even when I was relaxed. I admired her hair, and the styles she would do, on 'Girlfriends'. I also loved how 'big' it was. I didn't really see it as her being natural then, but saying oh 'she has hair like that because she is mixed'.

Patrick freaking Dempsey and Erykah Badu. If their hair got together and had a baby it would be Claudio Sanchez.
Lisa Nicole Carson from Ally McBeal.
I would have to say Maxwell and Mop top Maven. I was crushed when I saw Maxwell cut his fro and I miss Mop Top Maven's posts as well.
Thelma from Good Times STILL has the baddest puff in the game! Love!!!
Rudy Huxtable, Lisa Bonet, Tia & Tamara, Rachel true, Ellis Ross
YOU Nikki!!! I've been natural 11 years and I've admired the hair of others over that time. But I didn't "aspire" to or stalk anyone's hair until I discovered you!! LOL!!!
Shelli
my was taren916 from youtube
My first celebrity hair crush was Rachel True. I was and still am in complete awe of her luscious hair. My first real life hair crush was one of my cousins. To this day I still haven't seen anyone with hair as amazing as her's. My head is spinning just thinking about it.
Sabina Karlsson!!! The color and everything! I must admit I crush over Hair Crush's hair every now and then too!
this chic on my bus. i used to see her on the way to work. she had a seriously massive amount of hair all twisted up in long fat juicy twists. i was like *gasp* I'M DOING THAT! i started transitioning that day lol.
So, those are my three hair crushes.
Tracee Ellis Ross, Curly Nikki, and Teyana Taylor!
Lisa Nicole Carson baby!
Evelyn of http://salonnaturelles.blogspot.com/
Corinne Bailey Rae was and still is mine, even back when she had short hair in her "Put your Records on" video! Now her hair in the video, Paris Nights/New York Mornings is to die for!!!!
artofbeingcool.blogspot.com
Tracee Ellis Ross, our very own CurlyNikki, Taren916 and others whose name, sadly, I can't recall right now…
I don't know my first hair crush's name…She was a random woman I saw in Old Navy. Her hair was GORGEOUS. It was big and curly and full. I kinda followed her in the store, just to look at it. As I stood behind her at the check out line, I thought to myself "I'm gonna get my hair like hers". I was relaxed at the time…6 months after that I started my natural journey…Thanks Old Navy Lady…where ever you are 🙂
Imani Coppolla, Corinne Bailey Ray, The Mowry twins, but most recently, Teri Le Flesh
Honestly it was Maxwell… I really wanted the Urban Suite hair! 🙂
Lauren Hill
Funny enough, Corinne Bailey Rae was my first hair crush! I literally decided to go natural after seeing her and watching every youtube video on her. Later, I fell in love with others.
i cant even remember my first crush! and with all the pics i look at these days i cant remember my last either! but i do have a healthy appreciation for hairlines that are in tact as mine is damaged and i love long, thick twist outs!
Tracee Ellis Ross!!! But, I fell in love with the essence of Joan's hair and style, so by default it's Tracee Ellis Ross.
I believe Tia and Tamera Mowry, Tracee Ellis Ross, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Jurnee Smollet are a few ;-P
My first hair crush was Ms. Nicole Crowe aka Moptop Maven. That hair..so thick and dark and long. And she is a beautiful person. Love her. Sad she no longer updates..miss her
My first natural hair crush was Yaya DaCosta!
I'd have to say Rachael True from Half and Half and also Tracey Ellis Ross from girlfriends because both had a lot of thick hair.
Honestly….Curly Nikki was my very first hair crush and now its HairCrush(Chime).
Adrianna Evans and Yaya from ANTM
Curlynikki! my very first hair crush saw her appearance on the Tyra show and I've been hooked ever since.
I don't really remember having my first hair crush, but I think right now Janet Mock is definitely my hair crush at the moment!
Nikki, you were my first hair crush =D
Than Missmonie, and now I'am totally all over "haircrush" I swear if I could just have her length/thickness XD
mine is actually Naptural85 from YouTube. Her hair is just gorgeous to me!!
Traci Ellis Ross getting her Joan Clayton in on Girlfriends. She had so many styles and kept it fresh and professional as a lawyer, but my fave look on her was when it was wild and free.
Definitely Tracee Ellis Ross, ChiselleCouture and Corinne Bailey Rae!
I remember as a young teen (when my hair was relaxed), I had a hair crush on Tracee Ellis Ross ("Joan" from the show Girlfriends). I loved how HUGE her hair was! I always just told myself that my hair would never be like that because she must be "mixed" or just has really good hair.
Little did I know, I can achieve a similar look with my natural hair by just doing a bantu knot out 😀
OMG CHISELLECOUTURE
EmpressRi, Taren916, Jill Scott, Hair Crush
