Your First Time- Natural Hair Products
ShortnSweet asks;

When you first started your natural journey what was the FIRST product line you used? And do you still use it?

For me it was Cantu, and no I don’t use it anymore.

CN Says;

Can hardly wait to read the Product Junkies responses! I’ve been through so many I can’t even remember my first. Tisk Tisk.

I am a new natural ~5 months. Based on my friends suggestion my first product was KCKT & KCCC. I liked it and I still have some of it left. I just felt KCCC was to time consuming to apply. I may come back to it later b/c I do think its a good line.
Also, I am a PJ so I wanted to try everything else. I've got about fifteen different lines now thats waiting to be tried. JC, AO, SM, HR, Ouidad, Giovanni, KC, HEHH, Aussie, YTC, YTCC, Jessicurl, Olive You, Curl junkie. I have now slowed down b/c I just have way too much.

  • Shelly says:

i have no clue what i was using back then…i was all over the place. but i do remember using MissJessie Buttercreme. Currently i am an Oyin, Qhemets and SheaMoisture (gold) fan. I am relieved not to be searching anymore!

  • Anonymous says:

cantu shea butter leave in as well as the shampoo…cant find the leave in anymore and the shampoo dried my hair out…white rain apple orchard conditioner…still run back to it cause it detangles my hair soo easily….oh yeah cantu shea butter pomade…used tht like twice fully and its still sitting on my counter makes my hair uber greasy.btw i have been transitioning for a almost a year now.

  • honeybrown1976 says:

Vo5 's Strawberries and Cream conditioner and Carol's Daughter's Hair Milk. I no longer use either because I've found products that work for me.

  • Bird says:

the first time i styled (which was the day after my bc) i used KeraCare's conditioning creme hairdress. It made the twist out super defined but it was a little greasy but I used it a few more times before I went out and bought some shea butter and made my own concoction =) ooh! I also used fantasia ic gel for a twist out and I used Elasta QP Smooth As Silk Liquid Styling Gel for my failed wash n go lol

  • Anonymous says:

    Kitka82,

My hair wasn't a fan of SheaMoisture Smoothie alone. However, when I mix it with a gel for hold (i.e. Eco Styler Olive Oil or, last night on my twists, Murray's Loc-Lock gel) it works well! My hair is so soft and shiny today! When I used it alone the first time, my hair was very fluffy, but not much hold and it was raining, so it puffed, dropped and was dry the next day. As people having been saying, "no bueno." But, I got a FABULOUS TnC when I mixed it with Eco Styler gel. It's the next to last picture in my CN Naturally Glam Hair Idol story (I feel like such a narcissitic loser referring to my story as a hair idol one! lol) Anyway, here is the link. Again, the pic with the SM mixed with Eco is the second to last.

I used lottaa body hair lotion, jam pomade, dippitty doo gel, and some expensive hair mousse and paul sebastian's wet. Needless to say my hair was greasy dry and brittle all at the same time. Oh and perm rods made a couple of appearances. No i dont use any of these anymore.

  • Anonymous says:

I used Herbal essence hello hydration it worked finr for the first 6 months but after that my hair began to be dry when i used it

  • predestined010 says:

Cantu stopped using it for a while … Just revisted it at being 13 months natural. Makes my hair really soft… I had tried suave coconut conditioner my hair was like no bueno than I came upon Aussie and been hooked ever since thats my staple Knot Today still use it but we will see want to try kimmany's live and see what's really good. But that's about it just trying to stay very simple.

It all seems to trite now, with May 21 just around the corner…

First after the BC was the curly girl cowash-leave in regimen. I tried AOHR. Then AOWC. Then TIGI. Then HEHH. Abandoned them all because they weren't moisturizing my 4b-c coily wash-n-go. Brillo city after it dried.

My first big splurge was KCCC and KCKT: Abandoned due to gumminess – tried two jars and finally gave it to my sister (she loves it for her 4a coils).

Oyin handmade sample kit: Liked the OH Shine and define and the Honey Hemp condish, but I was cheap back then and never repurchased.

QhemetB AOHC: found it moisturizing but uncomfortably sticky. Never repurchased.

IC fantasia clear w/sparkle lites: Delivered 100% satisfaction for my TWA, but didn't repurchase after two jars. Too "you got something on your hair jheri-curlish" looking.

The whole Shea moisture hibiscus line. Good for a WNG but no hold for overnight twistouts. Good shampoos though.

After 2.5 years of rampant PJism, I'm still looking for my HG. Right now I'm using Jane Carter.

If we aren't called Home to Glory Saturday, I will try the Tropical Traditions Coconut creme moisturizing treatment.

  • Anonymous says:

My first was Organix Coconut Milk as a deep conditioner and shampoo, and the Herbal Essences line for co-washing, and Kinky-Curly Knot Today as a leave-in. Of those products, I only use the Organix conditioner and Kinky-Curly. The Herbal Essences really doesn't do nothing for me. Right now I'm using Tresemme' Naturals and I LOVE IT, and I tried the Aussie 3-Minute Miracle and it's awesome. I'll likely switch between that and the Organix for deep conditioning.

  • NhappyJackie says:

I first bought Palmers Olive Oil Conditioning Spray and Giovanni VitaPro Leave-in Spray. Both of them were trashed in a matter of days. My hair was super dry and crunchy.

  • Naomi says:

I am still using VO5 Moisturizing Milks conditioner, and Suave, but instead of their Naturals Tropical Coconut, I like Professionals Shea & Almond.

I don't use grease anymore. I tried using Doo Gro, and Softee products.

I've stopped trying to search for the perfect leave in. The two mixes I use regularly have been the best I've used.

Lastly, I do not feel the need to clarify anymore! I just use my Stimulating Spice shampoo Bar from Lush, weekly.

  • For Curly Girls says:

I used KCCC from whole foods, but now I am all about some Shea Moisture from target. It's so much cheaper!! Thank the Lord! lol

  • KC says:

    @Shelli:

OMG!!!!!!! I was sooo cised over Studio Line Pumping Curls and Frizz Ease! I used Frizz Ease when I was relaxed, and I gotta admit–it did work for me.

After only a year being natural, my first purchases were KCCC, Knot Today, EcoStyler Olive Oil Gel, and Hello Hydration. To be honest, the list goes on. I pretty much bought everything I read that people were using on the Naturally Curly message boards LOL. I am currently using Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose and Glycogen Protein Balancing Conditioners, with KCKT and Oyin Hair Dew as my leave-in and moisturizer. I'm on the hunt for a good, moisturizing shampoo. Right now I use KC Come Clean, which does the job but I'm almost out of it lol! The only product I can say doesn't do much for me is Giovanni Direct Leave-In. Leaves me dryyyy. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, though I'm trying to give it a chance because I still have more than half a container left lol!

  • Anonymous says:

Trace/Killa: Hi-Five to you too!! After posting 3 comments, I couldn't bring myself to post another to send a hi-five to you after I realized I missed you;-). Seriously, we didn't have much to work with back then and I wasn't going to use Jheri Curl or Wave Nouveau products as they were too oily and wet for me!!

Lisa, you beat all of us;-). But, in my defense, I wasn't even born yet in 1967 … I wasn't a twinkle in my parent's eyes until '72;-).

    Shelli

  • Lisa says:

When I first went natural (wore an afro), it was in 1967 and I used AfroSheen products. I was a teenager and watched "Soul Train" and all the most gorgeous naturals promoted AfroSheen on that show. It must have worked for me, all my photos from that time show a great big healthy looking 'fro. Watu-Wazuri people! lol

  • Anume says:

Lol, I started off with the Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In and it left flakes in my hair. Now, I use HE Hello Hydration and the V05 Strawberries and Creme. These products work well with my hair and can be found at any grocery or drug store. The best part is these products are dirt cheap!!!!

  • Anonymous says:

When I finally put the flat iron down I started with the Mixed Chicks line. Then I added Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding and Curly Meringue. Finally settled on Uncle Funky's Daughter (Curly Magic and Extra Butter), Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade, Shea Moisture Black Soap 'Poo and Conditioner and their Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

  • Anonymous says:

i used mixed chicks and organix coconut conditioner when in was transitioning and after my bc but i havent used them in a while…

  • curlybean says:

@ Shelli: Yay! How did we make it? 🙂 I was there with Frizz Ease & Studio Line too. I had to think real hard about what I used back then!

  • liliblogsnow says:

In the beginning, i used Organix Coconut Milk shampoo & conditioner, Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose, Hello Hydration, KCKT & KCCC, Miss Jessies Rapid Recovery Treatment. Now using Afroveda, Qhemet Biologics,Uncle Funky's Daughter

  • Patiently Waiting says:

My first time hair care products for my transitioning phase was cantu & mane & tail leave in conditioner. I don't use either of those anymore.

  • Anonymous says:

My first products was some ic Fantasia gel, carrot creme, Garnier fructis, and I used chlorestorol….I only use chlorestorol, herbal essence, and I LOVE Hawaiin silky 14 in 1…..got to have my eco styler

  • B says:

The first month of being natural I bought product after product. In the first month, some of them included:
Miss Jessie's – Baby Buttercreme and Curly Pudding = Expensive and left flakes and tack
Kolis By Nature – Shea Aloe Leave in and hair butter = Great product introduced it to my cousin and she's hooked
Shea Moisture – Curly Pudding and Hair Milk (pink labels) = Did nothing for my hair. It felt greasy
Oyin – Bought every product they sell = Love Love them all!!! Especially the Whipped Pudding and Shine and Define. Oyin remains in my regular rotation.

I'm a product junkie and 2 years into being natural, I still buy a new product every month 🙂

  • Anonymous says:

Cantu Shea Butter Leave In…No Bueno

  • LaNeshe says:

I was using Carol's Daughter, and only use one product from their line now (Tui hair oil sheen)

  • Anonymous says:

I'm newly natural (almost 5 months now,) and at first I was using Pantene's shampoo & conditioner for "women of color." They left my hair very dry, but after a couple of weeks after natural hair care research, I found out about the Curls line of products (the ones sold in Target), & I still use them today.

  • Anonymous says:

I remember using Miss Jessie's Quick Curls. I don't use Miss Jessie's anymore.

  • Natural-E says:

Vegetable glycerin and water was my first natural hair product and I still use it, it's wonderful.

    Evelyn of http://salonnaturelles.blogspot.com/

  • Anonymous says:

When I first went natural I tried Miss Jessie's it was and still is super expensive which is why I don't use it anymore, that and it has far to many chemicals and left my hair dry and dull.

  • Anonymous says:

Oh wait, it's Anon 8:43 again. I thought that said first natural line. Before CD, I used Pantene, CitreShine, Infusium 23, and Let's Jam. Don't use those anymore either!

  • Anonymous says:

Back at the turn of the century :P, I transitioned and Carol's Daughter was the first natural line that I tried. I don't think there was much else out there at the time. I do not currently use any products from their line.

  • jungfrau1010 says:

Miss Jessie's. The whole line. No, I don't use any of these products anymore. I have transitioned over to all natural ingredients. I was also using the Afro detangler from the beginning and I am still using it today.

  • Anonymous says:

curls milkshake and curls souffle and from there the whole curls line. No I donnot use the line exclusively anymore but I still have a jar of the souffle and the milkshake. umm yes I was a product junkie! oh also aubreys honeysuckle rose conditioner, I still use it when I henna. Nikki told me about those when she was on n.c.

  • Hermione says:

Ok. When I first went natural 15 years ago, my go to was – Mane n Tail. The conditioner was GREAT!!! It was thick and always left my hair soft. After 3 years & tired of cornrows/pressing plus I was doing grad school & working 2 jobs, I went back to the relaxer for ease. That lasted for about 6 years. Ive been through alot, but now my go to is Avlon leave-in and buttercream. For a deep conditioner, I'm trying to ween myself from Vitale's olive oil deep conditioner. Good stuff, but it has silicones. Idk. I may keep it.

  • Anonymous says:

    Carol's Daughter Hair Milk
Miss Jessie's Custard and Butter (?)
    Giovanni Leave-In
    Aubrey's White Camellia Shamp/Condish

I'm happy to say I don't use any of these anymore:

100% Vegetable Glycerin and Avocado Oil for moisture, softness and slip

  • Diva (in Demand) says:

Oh my goodness…I will never forget. I used a combination of Carol's Daughter hair milk, black vanilla leave in conditioner, and Aveda's Be Curly Curl Definition cream. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING!!!!! Since then I've gone back to Be Curly and it's my wash n go staple!

  • Greenie says:

Avocado mix found in a book. Didn't work, just made a mess

  • FabFreshandFly says:

When i first went consciously went natural, I started using bumble and bumble curl conscious shampoo and conditioner. I don't use it, but it is too expensive to simply throw away, so for now, its collecting dust 🙁

  • Anonymous says:

My first product was Curls. I've used the whole line (including the Target line). I no longer purchase the brand. I use aruyvedic herbs, homemade concoctions, and Giovanni Direct Leave-in. I no longer use products with hold.

  • Anonymous says:

First product line was Carol's Daughter and I rarely use it anymore since I have found so many more lines and techniques! Shea Moisture is my favorite these days 🙂

  • Anonymous says:

First 'product' to touch my freshly BC hair was a homemade flaxseed gel I had made and was using also for the first time. It left my hair with white gunky stuff!!! LOL! Then I ordered all the samples for Myhoneychild Natural Hair Products. I don't use this line anymore, but my favorite was the Afrikoko lotion and the Herbal Hair Cocktail

  • Anonymous says:

I used V05 milk moisture for co/wash HE mix with Pantene R/N for deep conditioner and murray's loc lock gel for styler sealed ends with olive oil all cheapies and still use them b/ced may 2010 have good results and hair is still growing 1/2 inch a month 🙂
some of the ingredients might not be so good but my hair loves it go figure

  • Anonymous says:

The product I first started using was Organics Texture My Way Curl Keeper and Softsheen-Carson Let's Jam. These products were recomemned by a friend, back when all I thought I could do with my hair was blow dry it straight (2009). Do I still use these product? Sometimes I use Organics, but I don't use Jam anymore.(and I don't blow dry unless I want my hair straight)

    Being Natural is c00l!

  • e says:

I used Pantene Relaxed and Natural and (I think now extinct) Aveda Sap Moss

  • Ezinwanyi says:

when I BC'd in 2000. my first line was Aubrey Organics, then Paul Mitchell, then Aveda.
I have recently returned to Aubrey Organics, and I am still trying other lines to see what my hair likes.

  • Gigi says:

My first line was Hair Rules. I liked it, but it was expensive for no reason and I've since found tons of other products lol. Becoming natural sparked a new area in my life where I can be a PJ!

  • Jennifer says:

I did my BC 2 years ago almost to this day and I used Jason's, Karen's Body Beautiful, Oyin Handmade, Carol's Daughter, and something else that I forget lol. As of now out of all of them I use Jason's still. I also use Aubrey Organic's and Shea Moisture now. So yea it's all trial and error. Lots of Love! 🙂

  • Jess says:

Carol's daughter milk…too heavy, my mom used it up on my niece. Miss Jessie's curly meringue and curly buttercreme…and NO I don't use either anymore. I tried and tried, but it was just too heavy for my hair. I've been natural for 3 years (post-transition) and just gave what was left of the small jars to my niece to try.

  • sarah says:

i BCd spontaneously. i live in Bmore now, so i panicked, called a natural friend of mine, she directed me down the street to Oyin Handmade and i've been a fan ever since!

  • Anonymous says:

I used Carol's daughter, Giovanni, Oyin, and Aubrey Organic products as soon as I began to transition.

After my BC last July, I stopped using all of them.

  • Trace/Killa says:

    LOL @ Shelli's multiple posts!

I remember that all that stuff you mentioned too! My early natural days started right after the 90s though, but I certainly remember seeing those products in the stores, haha. I tried that pumping curls crap once waaayyy back in the day when I was still trying to figure out what worked for me, I was too excited to try it! pffffft…it did NOTHING for me at all. hahaha One and done.

  • MelMelBee says:

My first was Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla line…No I don't use it anymore…it was too expensive!

  • francine says:

herbal essences hello hydration. and nope, i used one bottle and gave it up.

  • steph302 says:

I first tried the Oyin Handmade line — whipped pudding, greg juice, honey hemp conditioner and shine and define. I don't use any of those any more. They smell delicious, but they don't do much for my hair.

  • Flawlessly Freckled says:

Oyin, Qhemet Biologics and KBB. Yes I still use them but not as much from each line. I no longer use the KBB Butter Love or the Hair Milk, but still use the Luscious Locks and the Jojoba Heavenly Oil. Oyin I still use the whipped pudding and greg juice, I don't use the frank juice or the burnt sugar pomade (never liked the hair dew). I use Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Heavy Cream but not the Burddock Root.

  • tamara says:

Wow, when I first started I used ORS and Motions. Glad I wised up a bit.

  • Cherie says:

I bc'd in June 2010, so I've almost been a year fully natural. The first products I got were Suave Naturals Coconut Condish, Giovanni Direct Leave In and Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Condish. These products are still my staples, but I now mix the leave in into my kimmaytube mix.

  • Anonymous says:

It's Shelli again! Something just wasn't sitting right with me regarding that "LA Looks" scrunching spray. So, I had to continue my search for "90s curl sprays." It was Studio Line Pumping Curls!!! OMG, I am just cracking up because I used that for at least 2-3 years! LOL!! This was the bottle: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31D8jjZ5KwL.jpg. Awww man, memories. And I didn't answer the second part of the question. NO! I don't use any of these items anymore. LOL! I did used Pantene for many, many years. But, now I tend to use DevaCare and Herbal Essence products for shampoo and conditioning. However, I'm a PJ, so there are about 3 different shampoos in my shower and probably 10 or more conditioners between the shower and cabinets. Yeah, I got it bad.

Thanks again for this Curl to Curl. I think I found the topic for my GOC blog tonight=)!!

  • IcyLillies says:

    Motions product line…never again, that's all I can say…

  • LadyV69 says:

I used Miss Jessie's Baby Buttercreme and the Curly Pudding when I first went natural. I don't use them anymore. The Curly Pudding dried out my hair and the Baby Buttercreme was greasy.

ShortnSweet: If that is you in the picture, GORG!!!! Hair, face, glasses, pose, FIERCE!

  • Ladidah says:

Tahlia Wahid! Now I use Shea Moisture, and I'm loving it. I only wish it came in bigger bottles haha!

  • Samara says:

When I first went natural, I used Kinky Curly Come Clean & Kinky Curly Knot Today. I still use the kckt, but only as a ingredient in my leave in conditioner.

  • Anonymous says:

Awwwww, Okay, most of you are all newbies with these great new natural lines. I'm going to take it back to '95 when I started wearing my hair curly while it was still RELAXED (home applied relaxers 2x a year and hair never was bone straight). I used Frizz Ease hair serum to control the frizz and LA Looks scrunching/curl spray (full of "bad" alcohols)!! I'd scrunch the crap out of my hair! But, it still looked pretty good!! I used Pantene shampoo and conditioner (for dry hair – mainstream line). When R&N came out, it was horrible on my hair. Realize now that it's probably due to the protein, which my hair doesn't like.

Great thread. Ya'll had me googling to try to remember the brand of the scrunch spray. At first I was thinking it was Frizz Ease. But then remembered that it was something else.

    Shelli

  • Kendra says:

I used Mixed Chicks Leave-in for about 18 months before I graduated to products that didn't build up in my hair so much and smelled better. Now I use Deva Care No-Poo, Kinky Curly Knot Today and Shikai Everyday Conditioner as a leave-in!

  • curlybean says:

Wow, this takes me back. In 1998 it was all Aveda Confixor and Paul Mitchell's mousse. Maybe I threw in a little Pink's lotion and something that looked like ecostyler protein. Oh and Aveda emollient gloss to release all that crunch. Despite that my hair grew and looked good. No I don't use them anymore, although I kinda miss the smell of the confixor…I am in heaven now with oyin, curl junkie & bee mine! I am such a PJ now with all of the options.

  • Anonymous says:

I believe the 1st things I bought were KCKT and KCCC. I'm still all about the KCKT but the KCCC… not so much. I'm a product junkie so now I have tons in my arsenal but trying to lay off a bit.

  • Anonymous says:

For me, it was Curls (the whipped cream and moisturizer). I just finished using the last of it a few months ago (and I BC'd 5 years ago). Needless to say I don't use it anymore. lol ~KF519

  • Anonymous says:

I'm 11 months post relaxer and I started out with Cantu…and although I don't use it anymore…my husband does and is finishing up the jar of leave-in that I bought…LOL

  • StaceyMarie says:

When I was transitioning (almost 3 years ago), I used Cantu (ick) and after I BC'd (6/09), I remember getting one of those pomade sticks and some V05 conditioner. Now, I don't use any products that contain mineral oil and am weaning myself off of silicones. I would use V05 in a pinch, but my hair is so big and thick, that it doesn't work as well as it did before. Now, I use stuff like Suave Almond and Shea butter or Yes to Cucumbers. Oh, one thing has stayed the same…I still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE shea butter!

  • Trace/Killa says:

I've been natural for over 10 years, and I was not exposed to all of the stuff that's out now (though they might have been in business back then too, haha). My first products when I decided to go natural were almost strictly pantene pro-v. And this was before their Relaxed/Natural line came out (which I eventually tried out as soon as it did). I used whatever said "moisturizing" or "anti-breakage" on the bottle, haha. And for gel I used Citri-Shine, I don't even know if that's still around!

Nowadays I don't use Pantene anymore, mostly because I think other stuff smells better. Plus, the price of it has gone up a lot since I used to buy it. I still highly recommend their products though, because I always had positive results…and because of the emotional attachment I have since they were the first products I used as a young, natural-haired girl. lol

  • Curly FiFi says:

Like Shenica, I BC at the end of August, 2010, and I too went to Whole Foods, but I tried the Kinky Curly Custard and the Knot Today. Still use the Knot Today, it is a good leave-in. But now I use it as the KimmeyTube Leave-in mixture. No more KCC.

My go-to's now are My Honey Child Olive You Deep Conditioner and the Shea Moisture Shampoo and Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Oil moisturizer… and Oyin Handmade products…You see still a product junkie!

  • Ashleigh says:

Hydroveil leave-in shea treatment. I still use it. Mineral oil, petrolatum, and all. Loves it1

  • Anonymous says:

I used Carol's Daughter Hair Milk (lite)Pantene's Relaxed and natural conditioner and Co-washed with Suave's Coconut conditioner. I still use the Carol's Daughter hair milk and the Pantene.

  • ActiveGirl says:

I used Cantu Leave In and Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding. Do I still use them? No and No!

  • Anonymous says:

I used Cantu also, I am still trying to use it up though, it is good for my twist outs. I also bought alot of Jane Carter products, but realized I only like the nourish and shine and wrap roll, the other stuff is not needed and expensive.

  • Anonymous says:

I tried the eco-styler gel, but I wasn't a big fan of putting gel in my hair. I went natural in October 2009 and I still have about 95% of that jar left. I tried Hello Hydrations (didn't like it), Just For Me kids line of detangling shampoo (gave it away), Shea Moisture Hair Milk (didn't like it), KKKT is okay for detangling, but if I put anything on top of it, it flakes.

Cantu Shea Butter Conditioner is good for detangling. I still use that.
I LOVE Shea Moisture African Black Soap Shampoo. So far it's the best thing I have used on my hair.

  • MonnyD says:

Komaza care, I no longer used it. Love it and would someday like to use it again, But I a found cheaper option that does the job as well

  • Anonymous says:

I used Cantu as well. I no longer use it!

  • Anonymous says:

Everything from the curls line. yes it is still in the rotation

  • Lilac says:

Been natural my entire life, though around a year ago found out how to "properly" take care of my hair. My mom didn't have a clue how to take care of my hair (she's 80% white), so she took my cousins advice and used to run a brush and a comb through my hair constantly. She'd dip the brush in water, and put blue magic products like the coconut oil all through it, and have my cousin braid up me and my brothers hair so she didn't have to "deal" with it. Anyways I did that MY ENTIRE LIFE, or the great majority of it. Blue magic coconut grease, a brush, and water. LOL, until a year ago.

When I found out that I shouldn't run a brush through my hair like that and keep my scalp caked up with grease, I began using proclaim olive glossing conditioner, organix line, cantu leave in and sally's mixed silk (more recently). Not really a product junkie, I still use these products haven't thought of changing them since they work well for me =]

  • Anonymous says:

I used all of the same products that I used on my hair while I was still wearing the perm, and I also used beeswax to do my twistouts and such. Motions, pink oil moisture, all sorts of hair GREASE!!!Needless to say, my hair was a greasy, dirty MESS! I never grew my hair as long as it is now, either. I know a lot better than that now.

  • Anonymous says:

Carol's Daughter. I was all up on the black vanilla leave-in conditioner, tui hair oil, and the healthy hair butter.

  • AusetAbena says:

After cutting my locs, the first conditioner I bought was Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut. Dirt cheap and a great co-washing condish. Then I bought some VO5 conditioner. My first line of products was Giovanni (the shampoos and conditioners). I definitely still use those a lot. I use the Suave and VO5 sporadically. But I also ordered some Oyin Handmade, and I don't use the Honey Hemp that much anymore or the Burnt Sugar Pomade or the Whipped Pudding. But I have embraced their OH Hair Dew.

  • Anonymous says:

I used Eco and HE Hello Hydrations. Still use the HE but replaced the Eco with KCCC or IC Fantasia ( white one only, green one suds too much). Personally, I hate Eco Styler. Too drying and too hard to distribute through my hair.

Right after I did my BC in August of 2010 I went right to Whole Foods and got the Kinky Curly Sprial Spritz. I think I may still have a little left. Maybe it's just me, but I just don't see what all the hype is about.
