CN: How long have you been natural?
It’s been 2 years and a month
CN: Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
The first time I transitioned, I was a long term transitioner. The second time I only transitioned for 4 months and then chopped it all off. I didn’t want to go through it again because at the time I had no knowledge on how to transition and was just learning.
CN: What is your current regimen?
My regimen is currently under re-construction again, Lol. But lately, I have been co-washing 1x -2x a week, shampooing and protein treatments 1x a month, and DC’ing every 2 weeks. I do oil rinses with coconut oil and olive oil as well 2x a month. I moisturize and seal as needed.
CN: How do you maintain Length? Moisture?
I maintain length by twisting my hair and leaving them in 2 -3 weeks at a time. I only trim my hair once or twice a year and I straighten it before i get it trimmed. When I start to get lazy, I get protective styles in my hair like yarn braids, sew-ins and use half wigs. As far as moisture, in the morning, I will spray with my conditioner and water mix or use my Shea Moisture Hibiscus spray.
CN: Night time routine?
I have a satin pillow case that I sleep on so I don’t really do anything but go to bed. Sometimes I’ll put my bonnet on. If my hair is straight or in a twist-out, braid-out or some other loose style, I’ll moisturize it and put the bonnet on. But I don’t do it every night.
CN: What would you tell a new natural, or transitioning diva?
EDUCATE YOURSELF! There are so many myths out there about our hair that it’s not even funny. Soak in all the knowledge you possibly can and be patient. Don’t compare your hair to anyone’s and don’t do the BC thinking that your hair is going to look like the next natural’s hair. Have fun and enjoy your new hair.
CN: What’s the best thing about being naturally glamorous?
I’m different and I standout! People always come up to me and ask me about my hair. I don’t mind though because it gives me a chance to talk about hair and tell them about this site as well as my own! My hair isn’t like anyone else’s and I have tons of versatility. I smell good all the time because as an unexpected bonus, everyone loves the smell of the Shea Moisture Curl Milk that I use and the hair perfume I use by Pink Sugar. People actually stop and sniff me…lol!
CN: Anything else you want to add?
If you get bored with your hair, HIDE IT! DON’T RELAX! You can get braids, sew-ins, twist, etc.. but don’t revert back to the creamy crack. I also want to personally thank Nikki for inspiring me to transition back to natural because if I would have never found her blog, I would have never falling in love with the actual idea of being natural. The 1st time I transitioned I just did it because I was bored with perms but wasn’t in love with the idea until I saw her hair. Thanks Nik!
