Panthenol is a form of Vitamin B5. It is small enough to penetrate through the cuticle of hair and is a highly hygroscopic (water-attracting) chemical, acting as a humectant, attracting water to itself. It soothes irritated skin and helps hair retain moisture in the cortex and on the surface, leaving it more pliable, shinier and slightly thicker.

Dang, my conditioner has panthenol in it. I'm trying to avoid humectants because I live in Las Vegas and the air here is so dry that humectants seem to do more harm than good. Ah well, live and learn… thanks for the info! I like the scientific explanations.
I just saw this ingredient in SM Deep Treatment Masque as I was using it today. They describe it as a "Silk Protein".hmmmm….
Hi Anon 6:40: Try TexasNaturalSupply.com. I believe most of their clients are from the beauty industry as well as DIYers and so they have a lot of items I've never before seen on other sites. Beware, their shipping costs can be pricey because many items cannot be sent via USPS only UPS, FedEx
Where can u purchase this?
