Hey Nikki and all my Curly Girls,
I am done with my back to school shopping for my daughter, and I still have $112.43 left from my budget. I’m not a PJ and would like to try something new. I need a good Deep Condotioner. I think that I have type 4a/b hair and it’s about shoulder length. What should I buy?!
Thanks,
A curly with a lil extra change

I’m still loving Jessicurl’s Weekly Deep Conditioner, Jessicurl’s TooShea,
Curl Junkie’s Rehab Moisturizing Hair Treatment, and MyHoneyChild’s Olive You. All of these, with gentle heat, leave my hair smooth, soft and moisturized. The added benefit, especially for the Olive You, Moisture Rehab and Too Shea is the detangling properties. AMAZING! Unfortunately, I can’t get these on the ground in my area… they must be ordered online. If you’re looking for something more convenient, in a bowl, combine your favorite drug store brand conditioner with oil and honey.

No matter what you decide to use, I’d highly recommend that you (1) apply it to damp, not soaking wet hair in small sections, (2)use heat, (3) leave it in for at least 15 minutes, and (4) do your final rinse with cool water.
What would you recommend for Keithan? Tried any new DT’s lately?
CN, I believe I have 3c/4a hair. I'm transitioning without doing the big chop. Is there a product you recommend for daily moisturizing? What about a sealant? Also what products do you recommend for a deep conditioner and what protein treatment do you like? I'm trying me best to develop a hair care regimen that works.
Aussie Moist 3minute is AMAZING! I use LOTS of conditioner so the $3 price point is great for me.
I co-sign on Aussie 3 minute deep conditioner. It works just like the high end deep conditioners (morrocanoil and mixed chicks) but for the price and ease of buying it in any drug store for under $5, you cant beat it. My previous drug store deep condish was Pantene but Aussie is my staple.
Hey for all those interested here is the website with the Giovanni Products dirt cheap in liter and gallon sizes
http://www.massagewarehouse.com/products/giovanni-smooth-as-silk-conditioner/
@Tam yup, that's basically how it goes. buy and try. But be careful, or you'll end up a product junkie. read/watch reviews, compare costs, check out ingredients, etc. BEFORE you buy. that way you're more likely to end up with a product you love.
Omgoodness!! This is daunting. How do you all know all these products??? I'm still new to natural hair, and I haven't found what my daughter and I are looking for, but how do you know all this stuff? Do you just buy and try?
I currently love Curl Junkie's Deep Fix. I recently bought SheaMoisture's Yucca & Baobab one, and I have their Curl Enhancing Smoothie that can be used as a DT too. When those are done, I want to try JC WDT and the Olive You one you mentioned above. Oh, and I use my dt's with my Huetiful steamer.
Do not sleep on Fleurzty's conditioning hair treatment. It works magic on tangles and you do not have to use a lot. At first, I thought it did not have enough slip, but I realized I was not leaving it on long enough to penetrate. I leave it in for 10 minutes with a plastic cap in the shower or sit under a heat cap for 30 minutes. When I rinse it out, my hair is so soft and tangle free. Fantastic ingredients and product.

My votes are Darcy Botanicals Deep Conditioning Mask, Koils by Nature Creamy Shealoe Conditioner, Curl Junkie's Hibiscus & Banana Deep Fix, Curl Junkie's Curl Rehab & Bee Mine's Bee-U-Ti-Ful Moisturizing Deep Conditioner. Darcy's is still number one. It clumps my curls due to the moisture. Once I rinse, my curls are uber soft & still clumped.
I use and swear by Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle! I deep condition with it, detangle, and regular condition with it. I can't live without that little purple bottle that costs me $3. My hair drinks conditioner but this stuff has been a champ! I tried Olive You and my hair just sucked it up! LOL! I almost used the whole dang jar and still felt like no product was on my hair! LOL! I think my hair is thicker than Nik's so I've now learned that we can't detangle with the same product. Give the Aussie 3 min a try! It's amazing and it's super cheap!
Where do you find gallons on giovanni smooth as silk?
Taboo as it may be at this point, mixed chicks deep conditioner makes my hair feel like butter. Or rather, like Paula Deen's BUTTAH!
Good-googly-moogly!
ROFL
I was the anon that posted Aubrey Organics earlier…. After all the hype around Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment, I went to the site to look up… Being that I am cheap as hell, the lady that commented she was about to purchase the product by the gallon is what caught my eye….
Anyway, I got real happy when I saw $5.95…lol then I realized that mess was for one freakin ounce!!?!?!? 5 strands of my hair will drink that little ounce and spit it out…..
I proceeded to the drop down box for the gallon and that joint said $109.99!?!?!?!?!?! GOODGOOGAMUGGGGA!!!!!!!!!!!
In my Lil Jon voice: "WHAT!?"
Chile please, it can't be that good…lol.
I pay a $31.99 for a gallon of Giovanni Smooth as Silk….
Wow… I love my hair, but my hair products will not be more than my electic bill. lol
Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment is the BIZZ-NESS!! I am ordering a GALLON from her site…it has the best slip, melts in your hair, and I have NOT found a DC that has come CLOSE to the way this conditioner makes my hair looks and feels.
I appreciate this article as I was looking for a deep conditioner for my hair when I got to college this fall. The weather plummets fast as it's located in the mountains and I am scared for my hair.
Thanks 🙂
I alternate each week between Curls XTC and Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque. Even with braid extensions I find that they work really well on my hair…hate to use Andre's system, but as a frame of reference, my hair is a mix of 4a / 4b.
Ditto for Jessicurl Weekly deep treatment and Karen Body Beautiful's Luscious Locks but recently tried 3 condish on the ground that worked well: L'Oreal Sulfate Free Deep conditioner (Walgreens), MOPS Mixed Greens Moisture condish (Beauty Brands) and Kimble Brazilian nut & Acai berry condish masque (Target)–Kimble and L'Oreal worked really well, I did add Grape seed oil & honey to MOPS
I second Giovanni Nutrafix Reconstructor for a protein deep conditioner, makes your hair very soft and repairs damage. I also use the AOHSR mixed with EVOO for a non-protein deep conditioner to help with moisture/protein balance.
karen body beautiful's luscious locks hair masque… amazing!!!
$25 and worth every penny. high quality ingredients as well.
AUBREY ORGANICS HONEY SUCKLE ROSE CONDITIONER!!!
It costs $8.99 from Vitamin Shoppe. It is soooo thick and creamy and keeps my hair moisturized, soft and supple!!
I was using Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment, but tried Alikay Naturals Honey and Sage Deep Conditioner and actually like it better than Jessicurl. Unfortunately you can only get it on line @ www.blackonyxworld.com.
Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment gets my vote!! I want to try Olive You, but Jessicurl is so good, I haven't had a chance to try anything else.
I have 4 type hair, I use Giovanni Nutrafix Reconstructor, after shampooing, with a cap. It softens my hair and helps with detangling and you can get it at Target.
I love silk elements intense conditioning mayonnaise. That's if you dnt mind using cones.
@Tina, it's added in miniscule amounts to help balance the pH of the product.
@ Happykinks- Hi, I just wanted to mention that Yes to Cucumbers contains Sodium hydroxide (aka lye). It's at the bottom of the ingredient list, but it's still present.
Tina
How much honey and evoo should one add to their deep conditioners?
i cosign with the Olive You 100%!! But right now I'm on my second container of Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner. it's about 11 bucks for an 8 oz.
Yes to Cucumbers! You can buy it at Target or Walgreens and its about $8.99, and now that it has BHMT it detangles very nicely. Sometimes I add EVOO and honey just to do some extra conditioning but without it, its still good.
I literally just finished ordering Curl Junkie's "Rehab Moisturizing Hair Treatment"! This stuff is Fabulous!!!(Pricey but worth the money) I actually love most of the stuff from this line!:)
I use Cathy Howse's Ultra Black Hair Conditioner. It's minty so stimulates the scalp and makes the hair quite strong. It's a protein deep conditioner.
