Koos’ Defined Flat Twist-Out

This tutorial is of my latest signature style. As you know, I wear my hair in Curlformers A LOT, but lately I’ve been rocking a twist out from just 5 flat twists! And even though it’s only five, the twists are really defined, and because of the way I twist my hair, there’s barely any frizz! Hope this helps someone else!

Do you rock flat twist-outs?

What’s your process?

Your hair looks beautiful! I live by flat twists! It never goes wrong. I use the leave in spray conditioner by Carols Daughter (Black Vanilla Bean) and nothing else except some olive oil and it works everytime! I use it for my wet and dry flat twist. Try parting in the middle and you only have to do four flat twists.

i have flat twist in rite now! ive been trying to perfect this for months, i now realize now that my hand placement was wrong!!, i was flat twisting like naptural85 ( but thats not really a flat twist). now that i got the technique down, i actually can flat twist and cornrow !! longhairdontcare2011 has a good video to learn how to flat twist

OMG!My hair turned out fabulous!!! I used the exact same technique, except I put perm rods on the ends. My hair is full, bouncy, and frizz free!!! I used the Shea Moisture curing smoothie and coconut oil to seal. This was soooooo quick and easier than trying to do all those little twists…definitely a staple style!!!!

I love flat twists! I actually prefer them over regular twists. They give my hair more fullness. I guess I just like bigger hair vs more definition.

I love flat twist outs but not on me. I can not manage to get it right. It will look right in the front but the back will look a mess. I haven't given up on flat twist outs just postponing it until it is a success! lol

Very cute! I haven't really tried flat twists, but that shall be my next project. My hair is just about BSL and it gets tangled in my finger when I twist – I will probably stretch it out before doing my hair.

This is how I do my hair, even when I am going to bun in the morning. I can sleep in this and know I won't have tangles. If you can get your parts reasonably straight, you can bun up the hanging twists for a nice updo.

    Great videos!

I love how this came out! My first style after washing is a braid out, then twist outs and finally bantu knot outs. But the twist outs take so long because I need to retwist every night and it takes about an hour to do the # of twists I need for my hair (I'm doing loose, non-flat twists). And with the semester starting soon I'm sure I won't have that much time at night anymore 🙁 I'm going to wash my hair tomorrow and try this later in the week. Previously I haven't had much success with doing anything flat (cornrows or flat twists) but you made it look so easy so I have to give it another try

I just perfected my twist outs and so i guess its onto perfecting the flat twists . I do flat twists from time to time but i've never perfected them. I'll see how it turns out with substituted ingredients. My hair hates food, so coconut oil is out of the question and my curls take well to KCKT or HEHH so we'll try those. Substitution is the cure for PJism!

I LOVEEEE flat twists through trial and error ive learned how to almost perfect my twists I do the flat twist and curl and sometimes they come out looking like bantu knots when i curl it up too high. Definitely my signature protective style. I cant corn row my own hair AT ALL though :/

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

I've never tried them cause for whatever reason I can't flat twist or corn row.. 🙁

My flat twist outs always come out looking like I rolled my hair with spiral rods. I can never get it right so I have given up on those.
