The Adventures of a Natural Chick!

WOW is the one word to describe the last 5 days for me. I will start by saying THANK YOU Nikki, because without CurlyNikki.com I wouldn’t know any of these beautiful women.

What started out in October of 2009 as my attempt to get all the knowledge I could in order to keep my hair healthy, turned into an obsession! I stumbled upon CN.com and have been a 20xs a day visitor ever since. Don’t judge me, you all are addicted just like me! Now it’s JUST a blog you say? I say then you haven’t been on the site. It is truly a community! I have met folks that have become my friends. The bonding began during the Butters N Bars contest… y’all remember that? We posted daily and all became connected. I have since met quite a few Curlfriends at various events. Like the “Natural is not a Fad” event hosted by the one and only Pamela KoilsbyNature Jenkins on Saturday October 15, 2011.

This event took place at the National Harbor in Oxen Maryland. YES I drove 4+ hours to spend a wonderful day with my Curlfriends. This was an amazing event. It was well organized, informative and naturally beautiful. I mean you had all sorts of hair styles, sistas of all ages as well as the Guiness World Record holder for the largest afro, Aevin Dugas!

The Damn Salon was in the Damn Building too! Love those ladies!

And of course I got to hang out with the OCC’s (orignial CurlyNikki curlies)

I drove, I enjoyed and then it was back home to prepare for the next event…

CURLYNIKKI Does NYC!! Wooo Weee! I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was as the days got closer. I had already had plans to meet up early with some of the ladies to break bread and shoot the breeze. After a dreadfully rainy day, the sun was shining bright almost like a spotlight for Nikki’s grand entrance and it was indeed grand! We got there early… the Carlton Hotel is always warm and inviting and add Mizani’s extra touch… my heart was pounding. You could hear the folks that were there all whispering the same thing “where is Nikki?”. I looked to my left and saw that beautiful mound of hair. She was being interviewed and was wearing her best accessory- that smile! Now I had the honor of spending a few hours with Nikki when she first arrived, so my goal was to get the other ladies close to her if I could. She came down those stairs and good gracious did everyone run to get to her. I didn’t want to bother her, so I just posed with her hair–

LOL! I was so proud of her! Then I looked and here comes none other than Aunt Viv from the ‘Fresh Prince’, hot dayum! She was so nice, hugging us and taking pictures!

Taren was there and so was Richaeu! I just couldn’t keep up. The hair that flowed through that place was amazing, I kept stopping people, asking if I could take pictures! Everyone was so nice. The folks from NaturallyCurly were very nice as well. Well, here is a video I put together capturing the evening. Of course Boogie was there too… ‘lil doll baby!
