During my daily browsing, I stumbled upon this splendiferous natural hair video. She states that she achieved this look without twisting or applying product to her hair, which makes me wonder what my own hair is like sans product.
Do any of you sport naked hair? Please share by commenting below!
I have very fine, porous, 3c hair stretched and damaged by repeated 3 level color lift (sweet auburn red/brown) and I LIVE NAKED! Co-wash, shake-rinse in the shower stream, gently squeeze excess water from my hair and let it air set. I fluff and scrunch every so often during drying time unless I prefer a more structured coil but either way I LIVE for soft fluffy curls.
I'll admit, my tresses were tired y'all and started screaming for moisture but cannot take the weight and look of product left over even after dry, e.g. Frenchie from In Living Color >> http://youtu.be/41jUQkg0j18.
So, through much research on curlynikki.com I've discovered MANY products, actually almost TOO many. As much as I love every head of hair posted, it seems as though everyone uses more than 3 products for any given hair style and more time put in than let's say, a relaxer and wrap! Don't get me wrong, I am a product WHORE but I am also a loyal whore that has been using Nexxus products since the 8th grade (Therape shampoo, Humectress moisture retaining cond., and Keraphix for DC). To increase oil moisture (bc there is a diff in oil moisture and water moisture) I'll mix in expelar (sp?) pressed coconut oil for cooking with my weekly DC which helps shine and decreases brittle strands a bunch. So here's what I'm getting at: I need a leave-in, moisturizing product for use on a historically naked head of fine hair that will not weigh down too much. Any recommendations will be seriously considered.
Love you gals for fighting the healthy and natural fight!
P.S. I officially became a henna head last night/this morning. Still in the DC with Keraphix and Coconut oil. Looking forward to results but even my dude noticed that my hair color was a richer color – even with it pulled back! Will KYP with results in my next posta-novella.
Hmm, maybe I'll give this a go in summer, but for now? Allow that!
I could not imagine NOT applying oil to my hair. Okay, I might try no leave-in/no moisturizer. But not oiling my hair either would be almost sacreligious.
Naked hair? Noooo Ive never done that.
Like you, Nikki, it does have me thinking.

I've tried in the past but not again as my fine hair gets so dry and no moisture equals breakage.
i agree with anon 8:02 pm .i wouldn't style my hair without product as i wouldn't want to my hair to break.i have worn my hair unstrectched and i had to be careful so only once in a while i would do it but not regularly.I know what my hair looks like so i don't feel the need to show it off or prove anything.
I like the idea of this. I as well wear my hair "naked" on saturdays only but the only thing is it doesnt fall with length unless I do have product, and I have issues leaving the house without geling my baby hair.
I don't know, but I define naked hair as washed, conditioned but all conditioner has been washed out and nothing has been placed on the hair (no leave-in, no oil, no gel). It really allows you to see the true state of your hair. My hair, due to weekly DC and such, does not feel dry when I do this for one afternoon on rare occasions. iT feel light and bouncy
I like this! There was an article on Naturallycurly about naked hair, and I thought it was a cool concept. I wasn't certain what actually constituted offical "nakedness", though. Does it mean just washing all the product out? Or not putting any on? Anyhow, there are lots of times that I think I would like to let my hair free whenever I can, and I cut back on the products/twists so I can see what my hair is trying to do on its own, as other have said.
I wear naked hair rarely on a Saturday afternoon after I have worked out, washed my hair , have some place to go and don't have time to do anything to it. I usually end up putting a DC treatment on later that evening.
I agree, going "naked" does allow for one to see the true state of your hair. Many of us cover our hair with products ALL the time. Although consistent moisturizing is great, I think occasionally giving your hair a chance to be itself (all by itself) is good. Even if only for an afternoon.
Your hair is gorgeous and thanks for your video!!
I do naked hair sometimes. It helps me see the true level of health of my hair. Sometimes product can hide problems
plan – plain
sometimes, i do – but my kinky coils love, love, love moisture so for the most part; i put something on even if its just plan ole shea butter. In order for me to achieve true shoulder or bra length hair my hair needs its moisture!
