'White Only' Swimming Pool in Ohio
Nnenna writes:

Hi CN Fam!

Happy holidays! Just wanted to pass along an article that I just read on CNN.com about an apartment complex owner posting a “White Only” sign on a swimming pool gate after a biracial child swam there. The owner’s rationale- her hair contained products and chemicals that made the pool ‘cloudy’.

Here’s the link: Whites Only

CN Says:
Um, yeah. No. Where in the jim crow did she find that sign in 2011?

What the hell?

I really loved reading your blog. It was very well authored and easy to undertand. Unlike additional blogs I have read which are really not tht good. I also found your posts very interesting. In fact after reading, I had to go show it to my friend and he ejoyed it as well! Show your dog how to swim

OUTRAGED! Any hair products that a person (white, black, etc) uses could make the water "cloudy". That sign was ridiculous! ~KF519

Why do people keep saying racism is still here in this day and age? Slavery, Civil Rights Movement, etc. was not that long ago. Same attitudes they had then exist now through the bloodlines of their descendants.

    WOW.

  • Pamela says:

…And…um…last time I checked, white people use product in their hair too – mouse and gels, just to start. O.K. I'll leave this one alone. It makes my blood pressure rise!

  • Editor says:

such a shame, Im sorry this had to happen

  • Pamela says:

That is just so wrong on soooo many levels. I don't even know where to begin. It's 2011 for crying out loud. This is so "ILLEGAL" just to begin…I…I can't…

Has anyone been watching our politician? Racism is spilling out of their mouths like saliva and the saddest part is they are claiming they are doing GODS work.

    RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL

    Sad

I'm SURPRISED! People haven't grown out of this completely yet?

Are you serious??? Somebody call Rev Sharpton!

WTF!???? And what year is this??? Everyone's hair has some type of residue on it from time to time due to products, natural hair oils (Caucasians included), etc. The pool water is going to get cloudy no matter what—that's what proper pool care & chlorine is for.

Racism is taught. Period. Technically if we [the 'human race] cut our skin, we will all bleed red blood or so I thought… Hmmm

I'm happy to see these postings regarding race relations on both a national and international level lately. So many times, when we see comments on what could be ambiguous posts, people are in denial about the heavy presence of racism in this world. All is not well. Racism is alive and well and the more it's ignored the stronger the flames of hatred will be. We must acknowledge it, stare it dead in the eye, and continue to fight. Someone held onto this sign from 1974…and if the owner was only 31, that was before she was even born!!! The hateful people haven't forgotten, so the hated can't afford to either. KNOW TRUTH!

Yep, that's a BS excuse. If hair product chemicals really made that water cloudy, white hair, with all the mousses, hair sprays, gels, silicones and sunblocks whites pile onto their hair everyday, that water would never be clear.

  • Anonymous says:

wow that sign is so sad to think that people still have those signs

  • Erica says:

She had that sign hid in the back of her closet. I mean that looks really old. I guess that lady was waiting for a time to display it and unfortunately this was it. SMH….

  • Lioness says:

I think I see a date on this sign that says July 31, 74? I was only 5yrs old. Somebody really hasnt let go of the past and posting this sign is a sure sign.

  • Anonymous says:

the only plus about the sign is that it lets you know up front what type of people you are dealing with.It is sad but it could have been worse. They could have confornted the little girl while she was there and sparks may have really flew. That sign looks pretty old so they must be some good ol' boys that own that…stay away..

  • timabify says:

umm i thought all races used hair products, so wouldn't "white" hair products make the pool cloudy as well?? yea blatant racism.

  • Anonymous says:

If anything, the chlorine is bad for OUR hair. Wowww… the excuses people use to continue to spew their racism.

  • DrChuck24 says:

sounds foolish…I can't believe this person got away with hanging that sign. Sounds like a big ass lawsuit…smells like one too SMDH

  • Anonymous says:

Sounds like a law suit just waiting to be filed.

  • GGmadeit says:

OK first I check the calendar, yeah it's 2011! What in the ham sandwich is really going on? Make her water cloudy? Really?

  • Goombagirl says:

It sounds like someone might need to upgrade their facilities, if this isn't the case then the owner is flat out racist. Most pools have showers where you rinse before you jump in. In any case, if the chlorine can counter most if not all STI's I'm sure it can counter hair products.

How rude. People can be so ignorant

    That's disgusting and sad.
