Hola Chicas,
I’m putting together a new feature and need your help!
Please send me (1) pictures of your medium to long length natural hair and captions about why you love it and/or (2) what it’s like being natural after 5 years (or more), include why you decided to keep it long, or if and why you like it at a shorter length!
Please send submissions to contests@curlynikki.com with 5 years natural in the subject!
I sent pics the last time this was posted.. so I'm wondering will I have to do this again.
It is an and/or questions so you could submit pics if you have medium hair AND/ OR if you have been natural for 5 years (regardless of length). I don't understand the confusion but it seems like all of the previous posters would be eligible to enter either under question 1 or 2.
As far as medium length hair, I think it rests at your shoulders wet styled or dry then you qualify. If you aren't sure, send it anyway and let someone else decide.
I have been natural for 15 years. I do not have ankle length hair! ;-)I generally keep it on short side. Sometimes it grows without my knowledge to lengths I don't want to manage and I am forced to deal with it, usually by cutting.

Holy wow! This May will make it 5 years of being natural! ….I might throuw myself a hair party to celebrate!
I agree that the parameters are a little fuzzy.
I went natural with a BC 14 years ago and wore a TWA for 7 years. Then I texturized for 5 years going from TWA to BSL and back to TWA during those years. I have been natural again for 2 years, starting at TWA and now at CBL.
I definitely consider myself a veteran naturalista, although I've only been natural for 2 of the last 5 years.
So I will be submitting my photo and story. If Nikki disqualifies me, that's cool…LOL!
I've been natural now for 6 years (did my BC 2006 summertime). Based on how I covetted my "permed hair" before transitioning to natural I feel like I've come so far! I'm so PROUD of my self for hanging in their.:) Don't want to going into this long story but I TRUELY CAN'T BELIEVE how I use to feel and how I viewed my natural hair THEN and how I feel NOW! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY NATURAL HAIR NOW and it's likes my eyes have been opened to our truest beauty for the very first time. It's like FINALLY finding the Diamond in the ruff!:)
to anonymous on 2/1/12 at 2:42am… BSL = bra strap length
hth (hope that helps)

People clearly are not reading. It's not about having medium length to long hair, it's about experience. READ!
and/or (2) what it's like being natural after 5 years (or more), include why you decided to keep it long, OR IF AND WHY YOU LIKE IT AT A SHORTER LENGTH!
Goodness gracious, my "educated" women!
I think there's emphasis on the five years because it's not just length but experience. So I think if you've been natural for two years but have your act together that should count, but then she might want "veterans" as the title states. I've been natural almost five years now, but I struggled to figure things out and I've really only been doing it well for about a year! I'm excited to see what I can look forward to coming up.
Does the "and/or" part mean you can send in a write up about being a natural veteran without pics?Is it mandatory to send photos?
I can't wait to see the submissions and this new feature.
Are people not reading? She clearly stated she wants to hear from you if you fit in category 1 or category 2 OR both. So even if you now have a twa, as long as you have been natural over 5 years, she wants to hear from you.
Ive been natural for over 10 years now but my hair is not down my back…so I guess that means I have no place in this post!!!
Ditto Anonymous @ 7:24. I have been natural for 20 years. I was doing twist outs and and braid outs back in the early 90s. I have my routine on lockdown and found my "holy grail" products long before Youtube or any of the natural hair blogs existed. At times I felt like the last unicorn in a sea of relaxed and weaved sisters. Recently, I cut my long natural hair into an undercut bob which I love. Being a natural hair veteran is not about length. It is about figuring out what works for you and wearing your healthy natural hair in a style that suits you, long or short.
What about the folks who are "veterans" but prefer to wear their hair on the shorter side??
what is bsl?
If the photo in the post is what we should go by, then I'm a medium-length natural–but my hair is only 2 years old.
I take it that the primary thing that you're looking for is people whose hair is 5 years old, since you mentioned this 2x in your post…?
I would assume medium length while curly since most of the tips on the site are aimed at curly hair…..just my opinion so don't shoot me lol….I hope the new feature includes styles because God knows I'm style-challenged! Can't wait to see what Nikki has in store for us for 2012!
Yes…im bsl straight but shoulder length when in a wng
Hummm… I have medium length (somewhere between SL and APL) curly but I'm waist length straight. I've also been natural for 15 years. Do fit the criteria?
I second AnaDion Medium curly or straight? My hair is long past mid back when straight, but shrinks up when curly.
I'm excited for this feature! My hair is slightly south of what I would call medium (shoulder length curly at the edges, and ear length on the top), and I'm almost 5 years natural (I Big Chopped on the ides of March 2007!), but I've had some setbacks and terrible haircuts. It's nice to see things between really short and really long… it's an underrepresented group!
I got the idea of the woman in the picture as medium length curly..
I like medium length hair best (I'm assuming that's somewhere between twa and waist-length), because I can do whatever catches my fancy this week – either a retro updo or an braidout…
Medium length straight or curly? Because that's a difference. My hair ranges from just above my jaw (wash n go), to at/below my jaw (stretched twist out), to just below my shoulders (straight).
I'm 7 years natural. Does it matter? I'm medium/long length. Depends on what area of my hair you're looking at LOL
medium curly or medium stretched
T Monique
@ anonymous 11:06 I think it's either you have medium length hair and/or you've been natural for 5 years.
Do you have to be 5 years natural? Can you submit if your hair is medium length but you haven't been natural for 5 years?
What do you think medium length hair is? Because I think different people define it differently. My hair is a little shorter than BSL..
