A Closer Look at a Volumizing Mousse

Product Breakdown: Samy Fat Hair “0” Calories Amplifying Mousse, $8
by Nicole Harmon of HairLiberty.org

Product Description from Samy

This ultra-lightweight amplifying mousse adds incredible volume and body, leaving hair visibly thicker, fuller, stronger and shinier. Samy’s exclusive thickening complex penetrates each hair strand, increasing the strand’s diameter and expanding the hair from the inside out.

Active Ingredients

Polyimide-1
This ingredient wraps the strands with a lightweight coating to boost volume and block humidity. It helps the hair look full and defined, but it doesn’t usually leave it feeling soft. (Notice, the word “soft” isn’t in the product description). Polyimide-1 is also used in CURLS, Deva Curl and Carol’s Daughter products.

Polyquaternium-11
Polyquaternium-11 is the active ingredient in most wrap lotions. It’s similar to polyimide-1 because it conditions the hair by covering it with a protective film. Polyquaternium-11 is used for its moisturizing ability and it delivers great shine.

PEG-12 Dimethicone
When you see “PEG” in front of an ingredient that means it has been modified to be more water soluble. PEG-12 Dimethicone is included in this mousse to make it easily spreadable so you can apply the product evenly. This ingredient is also used in many face creams.

Product Instructions
Shake well before using. Dispense a small amount into palms and work evenly through towel dried hair from root to ends.

*Nicole’s Suggestion: For longer lasting curl definition, skip the towel and apply the mousse to damp-wet hair.
