Homecoming!

Homecoming!
a super moisturized chunky twist-out using Redken Butter Treat + Ouidad Hydrafusion on damp hair (10 twists)
Homecoming!
So happy to be back home with Boogie!  One of us nearly sh*t ourselves from excitement! And by excitement I mean bad airplane food at the end of a 12 hour flight.  And by one of us I mean not Boogie.

got 2nd day hair – not that it was great (see above), but it looked just the same even after my scarf slipped off.

Sill not loving the pixi-dust crap

    OK Y'ALL!

Called my local Ulta and they had the Hydrafusion cream in stock. Grabbed purse and car keys and out the door I flew.

Washed and applied it to my damp hair. My hair is 4-5 inches long with fine strands and medium density (scalpy). My hair is 4c – kinky coily and dry (yes – I said 4c – it's not a four letter word if you have 4c).
I styled it in a TNC.

Pros – smooth slip, great fragrance, good definition (that I spoiled with fluffing to hide the scalpiness)

Cons – not as "soft" as I expected, but not EcoStyler hard either. Also, there's mica or some glittery pixi-dust crap in there that I didn't like. I guess it's for "sheen", but that's cheating!

    Temp 70 degress
    Humidity:46%
    Dew point: 49

Ulta has a two-day return policy on this, so unless I break out in hives overnight, this may be a keeper.

    ALLNATURAL1,
Below is a direct cut & paste from what AG emailed me. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your email. Wanda Sykes loves to combine Fast Food, leave on conditioner with Recoil curl activator or for a slightly firmer curl she uses Fast Food with the Mousse gel. All the products in our curl category have amazing frizz fighters and conditioners that will help define and moisturize your curls. Fast Food is great as it provides all day moisture for your curls and leaves your hair soft and manageable. The main difference in Recoil curl activator and Mousse gel is that Recoil contains ingredients that encourage curl and Mousse Gel will define and support but not encourage. All of our products are colour safe, so don't worry about damaging your hair colour.

HEY ANONYMOUS AT 1:42PM: WHY DON"T YOU HELP A SISTA OUT & SPILL IT ON HOW ALL THREE A.G.LEAVE ON, A.G. RECOIL, AND A.G. MOUSSE GEL ARE USED in relation to when you emailed AG directly?

@CurlyNikki LOL at "I think we're hair cousins!" I believe we are! Our textures are very similar so I trust your judgement! Now you gon have me wanting to try this AG Fast Food! SMH! LOL! Where can I purchase it at? May have to go ahead and add that to the stash!

    Nikki,
The AG recoil is not thin, but not too thick either. A good balance (I thought) in between. Other reviewers indicated it left a slight white residue. That was the case if too much was used. I've only used it once, but plan to redo my hair this weekend. It's smells good and allowed the clumping I was in search of. It made my hair a little crunchy in spots where I used too much. That was easily remedied with some scrunching. I washed my hair, applied the AG Leave On, then the recoil to slightly dried hair, let it air dry a little (with no touching) for about 10 minutes, then twisted it. I'm currently rocking my twist out today (from Saturday) and plan to rock it until wash day this Saturday. Btw, that's twisted each night without my silk scarf. I am sleeping on my satin pillowcase though. I'm too going to purchase the AG mousse gel to give that a try. I read a couple of places Wanda Sykes uses all three products. I too emailed AG directly and they told me exactly how Wanda uses them. Good luck!! Hope it works as well for you as it is for me. Staples for sure….

Your hair looks fabulous and your baby looks excited to her mommy!! I enjoyed reading the updates about your trip to Brazil.

  • Lolo says:

@CurlyNikki – what ingredients (that are considered humectants) should I avoid in my leave in products? Want to combat the high humidity where I live.

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

@Natural83, thanks for the deets! I'm glad you gave it a chance! And no I don't think I have tried the leave-in… but I may have to now! I think we're hair cousins?

You should try the AG Fast Food underneath too… I like that it doesn't have any humectants in it and for some reason, I believe the Ouidad leave in does? And the last thing my ass needs is a humectant!

    xx

via @CurlyNikki Natural83, so glad to hear you had a similar experience! How much did you use and how did you use it? I'm going on 2 months now I think… hair is always fabulous and moisturized!

@CurlyNikki I used about a dime size amount on each twist. Have you tried the Ouidad Leave-In conditioner as well? Well, I used that as my leave-in and used the Hydrafusion on top of it to twist. I was sorta skeptical at first about the hydrafusion because I was thinking it was going to be more like a mousse and its sooo not like that! So glad I gave it a try! I live in Houston and the humidity here is horrible! If my hair survived a whole weekend, then Hydrafusion is definitely going to be one of my staple products for the summer!

Oh, and your curls…Awesome! I told myself last week I wasn't buying another product until September, BUT after seeing how shiny, soft, and fluffy your hair looks, I think I need to pay Sally's a visit on my lunch break. Shoot…there goes the rest of this weeks lunch money. Smh… 🙂

  • Anonymous says:

I so enjoy your photos and trip descriptions! You have such courage – I don't know if I could ever do those things! LOL! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

About the hair – gorgeous!!! I went to Ulta looking for the Oiudad – so desperately seeking something/anything to make sleeping on rods worth it.

Each morning I watch in amazement as my 4c TNC frizzes out before I get to work after a fitful night of tortured sleeping.

My hair is so DEFIANTLY kinky – I am so tired of banded puffs after my fails!

I wish you did video tutorials!!

Nikki…Thanks for the tip on the AG Fast Food Leave On conditioner. I purchased this while you were gone and even ventured out and got the AG Recoil. OMG!!! I NEVER write any reviews, but had to write this. My hair was remarkably soft (I couldn't keep my hands out of it), clumping was superb, totally moisturized and I whipped my hair back & forth the entire weekend. Love your site! Please keep up the good work.
