2012 BET Awards Performances!

By January 27th, 202126 Comments
Wanna know how (sick) & tired I am? So tired that I had credentials to cover last night’s BET Awards but cancelled my trip in order to watch from the cozy futon at Momma’s house… sipping Gatorade while filling your Twitter timelines with my foolishness. At any rate, one of the perks is that they sent along a vid with all of the performances. So in case you missed out, check out the highlights below! One word.

Kanye.

Enjoy!

Did you watch the awards?!

I haven't watched the BET awards in years, it has definitely gone down hill over the years & I refuse to try to keep up.

I have to agree that the BET awards is hard to watch as we awatch ourselves losing our grace and dignity and have the nerve to call it art form . Some of the artists are have true professionals and talents but it seems to get lost with all the profanity and cursing and the rapping. I"m not putting down all rappers but it does take over the show. When all the R&B older artists eventually pass on what are we going to be listening to where are all the love songs and melodies that we can sing along .

I missed the BET Awards show this year. I kind of lost faith in BET. I think I'll just watch a video of the perfromances I want to see (D'Angelo)…

I started watching the show, but after about 30 minutes, I chose to spend my time doing something more meaningful like watching the paint dry on my walls. This was the worst BET Awards show I've ever seen! Samuel L. Jackson was lame, the opening act had to be 50% bleeped because of the cursing, the singing was horrible. I watched about 3 minutes of the Whitney Houston tribute, but by that time, I was too disgusted with the show. I will probably never watch the BET awards again!

I watched the awards this year and was not very impressed. I was really annoyed with the censorship of the show. Blocking out half of the performance and then missing curse words and obscenities that should have been edited. I loved D'Angelo's performance and the Whitney Tribute. I'm not sure how I feel about Samuel L. Jackson hosting, but overall there were a few good moments and the rest was just…blah *kanye shrug*

There was some great music: D'Angelo ROCKED!!!, the Whitney tribute, Maze (despite Frankie being sick), the gospel was amazing w/ Yolanda, Jessica, and the others. This year was better…I just ignored the ignorance & focused on the goodness!

Didn't watch the show, but checked out the vids posted on here:

    1. I was shocked at Chante Moore, she sang her butt off (Donna Summer tribute), I never heard her sing like that before!!

    2. D'Angelo rocked the house down, I wish I was there cuz I would have jumped on stage and jammed right along with him, and

    3. the Whitney Houston tribute made me cry…yet again, one mention of Whitney and I break down like she was my own mom or something.

Everybody else….meh, not really interested lol

Thanks for this Nikki! I loved Kanye's performance as well.

I think "can't stomach" is the phrase to say for this post. BET isn't perfect, but they do showcase a lot of great black talent that would not normally get a lot of air play on more mainstream award shows. The BET awards did the best Whitney tribute that I've seen so far, and there were other great performances. Nikki as usual I loved your awards show commentary on Twitter.

This show was actually pretty good compared to those of past years. I was able to sit through the entire thing despite the horrible rap acts. I just use their sets as an opportunity to use the restroom or grab something to eat. lol There was great singing and the tributes were wonderful. Not to mention, Usher sounded and looked flawless.

For future reference, autoplay is super annoying! Lots of people visit curlynikki from work; I'm sure they don't appreciate this either.

Call me a crazy jerk, but how did all those white girls get down front?

  • Gwenn4ya says:

Uhmmmm sooo glad you did this! I'm in Korea at the time and it hasn't aired here yet. Thank you bunches. I can't wait to actually see the entire award show, but so glad you gave me a glimpse of what the performances were like! All were great, but Loved Usher! Thanks again!!

  • Taylor says:

Didn't watch it. I've never been into BET but it seemed like that was the only station people watched when I was younger…. I'm not very impressed with the station.

Yes I loved the bet awards I was dying laughing at the comedians the performance were the bomb.com (Tamar) lol. I cried a little when Whitney Houston tribe so did some of the celebrities. The best tribute ever her mother was strong I could not do that.

    I can't stomach BET….sorry!

I watched the awards. Only wanted to see Jennah Bell who is INSANELY talented , Melanie Fiona who deserved a standing ovation after she sang paint off the walls , and the Whitney Houston tribute which was tastefully put together.

Can't stomach BET anymore. Too raunchy and divisive for me and my taste.

  • Erica says:

Watched the entire show for once. Brandi looked and sounded fantastic. Pleasantly surprised to see Chante Moore – where you been girl? Lol. Chaka looked beautiful. Frankie Beverly is obviously very sick. Sad to see him trying his best to sing. D'Angelo was just okay. I'm not losing any sleep over this brother's possible CD release. If it happens, it happens. Worst moment – BET trying unsuccessfully to censor all the cursing. Some expletives went on for more than a minute – sad and pitiful. Best moment – Jay interrupting Kanye during one of Kanye's rambling speeches. Classic.

    HELL NO!!!!

  • Michelle @Radiant Brown Beauty says:

I didn't even bother. I'm getting kind of tired of the hype

  • Ang says:

No, I couldn't stomach the BET awards this year. Thanks for sharing the video. Valerie Ashford-Simpson's tribute was remarkable, Chante is still the bomb and the Whitney Houston tribute was awesome. Go Brandi go!

  • Anonymous says:

Who is that doing the Donna Summer tribute? They opened with Love to Love You Baby, a song that Donna hasn't sang in years because she became a born again Christian. Just goes to show you, be careful what you put out there, you may be remembered for something that you may not like.

I watched the entire show (first time) and followed you and a couple of others on twitter. I actually liked the show. And yes, Frankie Beverly's voice ain't what it used to be but they still had the crowd on their feet. Heck, I was dancing in my living room, all by myself! Chante' Moore and Chaka Khan looked awesome. And even though D'Angelo choose the wrong song for the event, he still had my head bobbing.

My favorite part of the night was Brandy's Whitney tribute, she sounded and looked amazing.

  • Bobby says:

I watch bit and pieces of the show, I couldnt stomach to watch it in it entirety, From what I did see Frankie Beverly sounded terrible, the Whitney tribute was great and the show should have ended after that.
