Hello CN Community!
I am an up and coming actress/writer, and former dancer for the Miami Marlins.
I was insecure about my natural hair when I first BC’d back on April 5th, 2012. I didn’t know how to handle my hair and worried how I would look on TV. I felt like I had lost my femininity; mainly because I wasn’t straightening it anymore. I would work background on TV and film four times a week. After my BC, no one would book me. All because of my hair.
It was a tough pill to swallow but I made the choice to not put a wig or weave in my hair in order to work. They needed to accept my hair, most importantly I needed to as well.
Eight months later, I’ve grown to love my hair and overcome my ignorance! I also give hair tips now and then on my blog www.triple3xkeila.blogspot.com (shameless plug 1). And I’m currently working on other projects www.keilahamilton.com (shameless plug 2). Soon me and my 4B hair will be taking over your screens!
My routine:
Pre-Wash: I use Trader Joes Coconut Oil to detangle my hair in several sections, a good day will take me about 1 hour.
I shampoo but only when needed with Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle. If I need a deep treatment, I apply it in sections after I shampoo and I DT with Trader Joe’s Raw Honey and leave it in for 30-60 minutes. I love how moisturized my curls are and the Co-Wash makes it even softer.
I Co-Wash with Tresemmes Naturals (Love this stuff!) and I am currently doing ‘The Pippi’ technique minus the dryer. I section the hair, starting with right side, I apply the Tresemme or shampoo; detangle; rinse. Then to the left I repeat the same routine.
After co-washing, I apply the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie then seal my ends with the Shea Butter.
My fav products are the Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie (smells delish) and Tresemme Naturals (it really defines my curls best).
Styles:
Right now I’m going through the awkward phase so I juggle between the fro-hawk or I do a twist out and wear a bow or headband.
Bedtime:
For my nighttime routine, If I’m not lazy or tired (which is all the damn time), I section my hair into twists and tie a satin scarf around. But I mostly wear it out and tie the scarf around the edges.
Here is my most recent work as the Bikini Girl on Key and Peele:
