Want to add slip (detangling) to your cleansing? Add oil to your shampoo! Coconut oil is wonderful for hair, evening primrose oil is soothing and healing to the scalp, canola oil is light and has little scent. You can also use melted shea butter or cocoa butter—any vegetable fat found in most natural hair products will do.

Add 1/8 teaspoon to 1/4 teaspoon to a very shallow palmful of shampoo for fine hair, or 1-2 teaspoons for thick or very curly hair. Your shampoo will probably foam more than usual, but your hair will be left feeling silky.

Thanku. I really need natural ways to help maintain some.moisture in my cousins hair. She is a pre-tween and I enjoy braiding or twisting her hair. However it is terrible.to hear her cry or cringe when I even attempt to comb thru her strong thick coils. I found alot of ideas to test…that arent harmful to the hair and full of chemicals….should beauty hurt?

Actually, my hair detangles well using Shea Moisture Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo as long as I am detangling under running water…. It provides great slip for me.

I usually wash with the Shea Moisture shampoo and detangle then deep condition with my Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose conditioner.

Detangling with shampoo is kinda taboo with natural hair which is understandable since shampoos tend to be more drying than conditioner. Perhaps detangling with shampoo works well for me because I do regular deep treatments and keep my hair moisturized with water and olive oil during the week….? I also henna once a month and only wash & detangle my hair in sections. My hair is VERY thick, medium density 4a/3c curly/coily and below collar bone length. Sort of like Naptural85…

Anyway, adding oils to shampoo sounds like a great option as well! I am all about simplifying my routine!
