As your natural hair grows tangles come easy and it takes an investment of time to get through them. Detangling properly is a definite must if you want to retain hair length, as improper detangling will break off your hair. Follow these steps in order to achieve a beautiful, tangle-free hair:

Step #1 Prepare a spray bottle filled with water and get your favorite leave in conditioner.

Apply these to your hair. The moisture that is applied to your hair helps you comb your hair easier and faster.

Step #2 Section your hair.

Making use of your fingers or rat-tail comb, divide your hair into sections, particularly ranging them from four to six, or more—whichever depends the length and thickness of your hair. To keep the rest of your hair out of the way, hair clips will come in handy.

Step #3 Finger detangle to work out major snags.

Make sure that you detangle gently to avoid hurting your scalp and to work outward. After you have gotten the major kinks out you can use your comb. Start from the ends of your hair using a wide-tooth comb work your way up to the root.

(If your hair dries and you need more moisture, use your spray bottle.)

Step #4 When done, clip the section that is already detangled out of the way.

To avoid your completed section from tangling braid or twist it. Repeat this method and do this for all the sections of your hair until you are complete.

Do your detangling sessions regularly.
At least once a week, you should ideally do this unless you are sporting a protective style.

Do not over-detangle
Black hair flourishes in a low manipulation environment so if you can stick to detangling once per week or longer this would be best.

Avoiding blow drying frequently
Yes, it is the quick fix solution and there’s nothing wrong with doing it occasionally, but never rely on this method.

Don’t underestimate the power of leave-in conditioners
Leave in conditioners really help out in the manageability department and will give you the slip you need to work through your hair!

Never detangle bone dry hair
You need to use something that will give you slip when you detangle (it could be an oil, leave in, butter just use something)! Detangling dry hair is time consuming and will lead to breakage.
