Daily Devotional September 7: Seek Ye First the Kingdom

Daily Devotional: THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SEEK THE KINGDOM FIRST!

Good morning. God morning to you.

I talked with one of our other selves for hours yesterday about purpose, inner purpose, outer purpose, and about the Presence of God. About how, no matter what spiritual practice you presently do, it is nothing if you’re not feeling Love, if you haven’t sought the Kingdom first and sat down in it, and done the practice there.

Eknath Easwaran quoted the Gospel of Matthew and said:

“Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven, and all else shall be added unto you.”

And then he went on to say that this mantra is one of the best of prayers, one that we say not just when we get up or when we go to bed, but countless times throughout the day and throughout the night as well. This prayer is not addressed to someone outside of us, but to our deepest Self, the Lord of Love who dwells in the hearts of us all. When we repeat it, we are not asking for anything in particular, like good health, or solutions to our problems, or richer personal relationships. We are simply asking to get closer to the Source of all strength, all joy, and all Love.

To use Jesus’s words, we are asking for the Kingdom of Heaven, and we find at the same time that our health improves, our problems begin to be resolved, and our relationships blossom.

Is that what you find? Is that what you’ve been finding?

Or do you still find yourself looking around, waiting for something to change or shift? You’ve been abiding, you’ve been practicing this Love, staying aware of this Love, but maybe there’s a graduation happening right here. Things often get harder right before you end the curriculum, right before you end the school year. Things get intense. It gets darkest right before the sun comes up.

Right now, you are being invited to graduate:

From trying to hold or see Love,

From trying to feel Love,

From trying to be aware of the Presence…

…to BEING Presence. To BEING Love. To BEING that Light, appearing as a body, God looking like you.

You might feel so unworthy of that oneness, of that unity, but just like you don’t need to believe in gravity for it to hold you here, you don’t have to believe you’re worthy to become aware of this oneness that you are. There are not two. It’s not you and God. It’s only Him.

You decrease. It increases. This Presence gets louder, you can’t cover it up even if you want to. And people won’t know what it is, but they can sense it. Your other selves can sense it.

Right now, I can sense you saying, “I’m not there yet.”

So hold it in your hand. You want to hold the miracle that you’ve been praying for in your hand, right? You want to put it in your pocket. You want it on your phone, you want that message to come through on your phone. Put it in your hand. Feel it in your hand. Feel it in your pocket. Feel it on your right thigh.

I told our other self: feel it as the person who has transitioned. Personalize it. Because if they were back, you would not let them out of your sight. You would not take your eyes off of them. You would not let their hand go.

So take Love’s hand. And even when you forget that you’re holding it, it’s still holding you, and you squeeze back.

The more this becomes natural, the clearer it is that it was never two. The practicing of it actually perpetuates the illusion of duality. You could just wake up now as Love, right now, without any intermediary, without any steps, without any practices. Right now, you can close your eyes to everything, and as that body opens its eyes again, you are Love.

The body is filling. The body is sitting in an invisible ocean, finally a fish in water. It is finally cared for, fed in a way that it has never been before, powerfully and consciously. Miracles appear to happen simply because that body shows up in a room, but it’s because it has become so transparent that God is shining there. God is healing there, through that body’s hands, through its eyes, through its words.

Somebody will come up to you talking, and you will be listening to God. You’ll be listening past them. And then the mouth of that body you call yours will move, and it will say something so beautifully piercing for that other soul, and you won’t even know where it came from or why you said it. You are completely uninformed, but God was there. God is there. You, the highest of you, is there, listening and speaking, listening and doing.

Watch that body today: walking, praying, listening, eating, driving. Watch it as if it’s someone else.

And then comes the graduation where you are that body again, but it is full. What you are is beyond it at the same time. You take up the whole body and the whole scene, no division anywhere, no separation anywhere.

And it’s a Sweetness.

Right now, I bet you weren’t having a sweet moment. But as I bring your attention to it, it’s like sugar has been stirred into that room, into that body. You can taste it. You can feel it.

That’s the difference between you and that version of you you’re trying to get to:

-The one that is completely taken care of.

-The one that gets paid just to exist.

-The one who is fully aware of their purpose and living it, who is happy and bringing joy to others.

-The one who is so comfortable they make everyone else comfortable.

The Sweetness, that’s the only difference. That version of you is aware as the Sweetness. This version of you has tasted it at times, in and out of it, sometimes holding it in your hand, in your pocket, on your phone, walking through it, feeling it in every step, hearing it on every breath:

“Only Love is here. Only Love is here.”

Tasting the Sweetness of that truth.

That version of you that you want to be, you only want to be her because you already are. You already have it. You already are that. It’s not wanting or desiring; it’s just waking up from ignorance. You already are that.

The only difference is the Sweetness. It’s the only difference. And you can become aware as that right now.

And that’s the end. We declare the end from the beginning. It was already declared. It’s already done. You already have it. It’s already sweet. Life is sweet, and it’s only going to get sweeter from this moment forward.

You have shifted in this time that we’ve spent together. That is the assumption that has been made, and the one that you will live in for the rest of your days.

And every time an echo or a rerun tries to pull you back into, “Oh, I need to do this or I need to do that to get to that version, or to get that thing, or to get that call,” you relax your shoulders. You can even ask yourself, like in The Power of Now:

“I wonder what my next thought will be?”

You ask that question, and it stops the old thoughts, the reruns, the echoes dead in their tracks. Say it right now. Ask yourself right now: “I wonder what my next thought will be?” …and listen.

And there’s the Sweetness again.

It’s that simple. If you just walked around all day repeating that question, the shift would happen so fast. The Sweetness would be so apparent. You would be that.

You would recognize that the Silence is not just, “Oh, my mind stopped, that’s good meditation.” No, the Silence is God. The Silence is reality. It is your reality, and it will appear as the new reality. It is the sound of the new reality.

Allow that to replace the noise. You deserve that. You’re worthy of that. And I’m here for that, I’m here to watch that for you, to see it, and to celebrate with you.
