An all time favorite and constant staple in my shower for my curly, dry hair is Ausssie Moist Conditioner (I also use it in my henna mixes!) It’s an amazingly slippery, silicone free conditioner that detangles like magic. I like to apply it liberally and then pass my head under the running water several times to help not only evenly distribute it, but activate it’s miracle-working powers. I let it sit for 5-10 minutes while I shave and what not, and then begin detangling with either my fingers or with my wide tooth Ouidad Comb or wooden Bass comb or brush. It rinses clean and leaves my hair feeling nourished. Sometimes, I accidentally allow my hair to fully dry in my tshirt before remembering to style, and the nake hair feel of hair that was conditioned with Aussie is soft but strong, shiny, and very defined. I’ve used it for years and use it on the kiddos, too.
Ingredients: Water, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, fragrance, glutamic acid, bis-aminopropyl dimethicone, benzyl alcohol, edta, citric acid, sodium chloride, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone.
Another favorite is Oyin Handmade’s Honey Hemp. It’s a Black Owned Hair Care line available at Target and the ingredients list can’t be beat. The slip is amazing and the smell is divine! I had totally forgotten about this conditioner until my mom re-introduced a few a years ago! Deeply grateful for the reunion! It was an all-time favorite for forever (I used to drive a country-mile in North Carolina to purchase it at a small boutique before they were in Target… that, and Blended Beauty! Remember them?!), and like many other products and techniques over the years, it got lost in the sauce. That sauce being my spiritual journey, lol, which raged from 2013 til 2018. Mom is presently in full-on product junkie mode and I definitely encourage it. She’s having fun, and it’s beautiful to watch. I remember being there. I told her of my love affair with Oyin’s Hair Dew back in the day, but told her that I didn’t remember the rest of the line being particularly memorable. I WAS SO WRONG. She bought the whole line recently, and I revisited the Honey Hemp Conditioner, and Oh. My. God. I’ve since thrown out all my tried-and-true cheapies, and even the more expensive, super thick and rich formulas, and invested in one big-ass pump bottle of Honey Hemp. My tub and hair shelf are looking real neat right about now!
This conditioner. It not only melts tangles in seconds (’cause behentrimonium methosulfate), it smells divine, and leaves my hair soft but clean. The slip is undefeated. I use it on Gia and Max, too, and my Mom is feeling like the MVP for bringing it back.
Ingredients: purified water, organic aloe vera gel, behentrimonium methosulfate (and) cetearyl alcohol (emulsifier derived from colza oil), honey, virgin hemp oil, coconut oil, vegetable glycerine, hydrolized silk, citrus essences, fragrance, optiphen (preservative)
