Happy Obama Day!

He is here…

Happy Obama Day!

I was there…January 20, 2009.

As I sit here typing, my feet and hands are still frozen, legs cold and stiff, and believe it or not, I’m too tired to hit the clubs!

Two days ago, I decided that if I was going to have a chance of actually seeing Obama with my own eyes, I needed to skip the Mall and go straight to the Parade site. Even ticketed Innagural attendees were too far back to see anything but the screen.

We woke up this morning at 4:30am, got to the Metro by 5:30am, hit the streets at 6:30 a.m., and found us a choice spot on Pennsylvania Ave for the Inaugural Parade by 10:00 a.m.! We managed to post up right in front of the barricade at Pennsylvania and 10th…no one in front of us to block the view! After being exposed to outrageously cold and windy weather for nearly 10 hours, we were tired, cranky, and down right miserable. But, when I saw Obama and Michelle in full stride…GLOWING…I was overcome with emotion. They were within 25 feet of us, and I was so awestruck, that I was physically incapable of taking a single picture! Luckily, my husband captured a quick video clip and a couple of pics. All in all, today was most certainly worth it! Very overwhelming. I feel truly blessed to have witnessed this historical event. Oh, and by the way, pictures don’t do Obama or Michelle any justice…they are truly a fly, FLY couple.

Happy Obama Day!Happy Obama Day!

Metro Escalators…jam packed…took us an hour to get from the train to the street
Happy Obama Day!Happy Obama Day!
Security check-point…took us upwards of 3 hours to get through the line (lots of pushing, shoving and angry folks)
Happy Obama Day!
Trying to stay warm.
The man of the hour!

OMG. I straight up thought I saw you but then I was like, “Nooo, couldn’t be.” Haha! That’s so funny.. yet sad because I didn’t actually get to talk to you.

    That was a hectic day.

Oh I’m so jealous! But they TRULY are a FLY couple… and it’s so nice to see that they are both successful on their own, yet compliment and support each other in every way. Love it! They are what come to mind when I think of a strong, lasting, and loving relationship 🙂

So glad you got to experience the Inauguration. It certainly was cold. We got there around 11 and as soon as he finished his inaugural address, it seemed like the weather dropped 10 degrees. Great pictures. And yes, the subway was ridiculous.

What an awesome experience!!! I didn’t leave my TV all day! I was in a trance I tell you, so I can only imagine how exciting this was for you! I’m jealous that you got to see the President and First Lady live and in living color! LOL. This is a day I’m sure none of us will ever forget!

Man AN!! You are better than me! Cuz even if I could’ve got off work, I’m allergic to the cold lol Obama or Nobama, I’m not standing in the cold for NO-BODY! lol Thanks for taking 1 for the team =)

To me, I can see the love and the heat radiating from the couple. Everytime I see them together on TV or pictures I can’t help but to stare in awe. Even tonight when they danced @ the Neighborhood Ball, I was just staring @ the tv. Esp when he goes “How good looking is my wife tonight?” GIRL, I completely melted!!! I absolutely LOVE that man! =) I gotta find a man like that!

Oh…and um, the economy and such lol

Thanks Nikki for sharing your experience I was watching from the comfort of my home(too cold in DC lol). I’ve been glued to CNN all day, glad your husband was able to get some pics. Hope you all have a safe trip back.

You rock Nikki!! I live in B-more and used to work in DC (right near L’enfant Plaza) but I still knew I didn’t have the temperment to deal with the crowds. Thanks for sharing. Get back safely.

Amazing!!! I’ve been glued to my tv all day. I don’t handle cold well so my husband overruled any thought of us going out there. He figured I would drive him crazy with my complaining about how cold I am. He’s probably right. I’m so glad you shared your experience with us. I know it must have been exciting!!!
