her natural is real thin and looks unhealthy.thats why when she let it out, its always in curlys…i dnt like her

  • Natural Hair says:

I've seen Tyra's natural hair on ANTM. So she has revealed it before. She has a full head of kinky hair that looks quite long.

  • Unknown says:

    I don't believe it. I can't see her revealing it all. I just can't.

  • NappySince10/01/08 says:

precisely Olivia. I'll never stop loving Tyra, no matter how corny she can come off at times (lol). I do still look up to her and will not try to downplay what she has accoomplished by making a huge deal of her hair.

And… I'll always be annoyed by weave LOL (that aint changing on my end, sorry). I understand getting a few tracks for length and fullness sometimes to accomplish a desired look for certain occasions. It should be needless to say that I am also ALL for protective styles by the way. When the fake hair is being worn constantly and out of habit it seems, I get worried especially when it's caked up on the hair and not looking realistic. *breathe*

Natural to me will always be, not having a chemical that changes the structure and texture of the hair. I don't know why ppl get uptight about coloring but that's another topic. I'll personally will not do it (I love my natural color).

I'll finally hush up by agreeing with some of you that I will not be tuning in but I do have my trusty blogs to count on! 😉 AND, that I wish her the best in whatever choice she ends up making b/c really, it's not that big of a deal until that person makes it one. She is doing just that with the above article. She can atleast weave it up 3 to 4 times a year (leaving it in for only two weeks) if she starts to have the phony pony blues/withdrawals… ha ha. just a thought there. *wispers: forget yall, I still can't stand weave 🙂

I'd like to add I'm not always a fan of Tyra's personal style choices (hair/clothes etc.),some of the topics highlighted on her talk show or even her interview skills/execution etc. (Katie Couric, Oprah or Barbara Walters she ain't.) However, I think she's done a fantastic job parlaying her modeling stint into a business empire. If she's not the brains behind most her successful business ventures/decisions she was cetainly smart enough to surround herself with the right business people. An Emmy, a successful/ multi-million dollar production company of which she's the head/boss, not just a worker bee. She didn't have to marry rich to accomplish all of these things. Not bad at all for a former underwear model. I really admire what she's accomplished in the business/entertainment field so quickly. Can't wait to see what business move she makes next.

Not expecting much from this. In the end, even having her own show can't stop her from making sure she falls in line with mainstream beauty standards. I don't see her transitioning to let go of relaxers but we'll see. It would be nice if she rotated between weave and weave-less days. It would still be straight hair but a step in the right direction nonetheless.

Lots of people seem to be speaking out of jealousy. Tyra is beautiful and I think wearing her real hair will be pretty cool.

Jealousy? It's not about jealousy, I doubt anyone will right out say Tyra is ugly, because frankly she is NOT! She is a beautiful woman, but the fact that it's causing such an uproar about her hair does not suit well in my heart. She will look drop dead gorgeous, but I ain't waiting for that episode to arrive, I got blogs that keep me it touch. There is other issues in the world. Hair is so minimal.

  • Unknown says:

I think if she really wants to make a statement, she should wear her hair for more than just one day. From my understanding, it's to show her viewers that they should feel comfortable wearing their natural hair instead of always weaving it up, and I don't think just one day of wearing her hair will cut it. She has worn her natural hair in cornrows before for an episode, and again it didn't really leave much of an impact. Now wearing her natural hair for an entire season? That would be more influential.

  • Girl Friday says:

I'm not excited by this at all. I'm sure she her hair is relaxed, so natural might not be the best word for it. Even in the article, the word "natural" was in quotations! Sounds like asking for one thing, and getting something similar on a technicality. I am not a true or even SLIGHT Tyra fan, so I'm not expecting much sadly.
We'll see though, she might be the ticket to opening up everyones eyes to a different type of beauty. I mean can you imagine how everyone would react to seeing those long, sleek, highlighted tresses in a thick, curly, BIG afro? It would freak everyones freak, which I think would be a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

"Right" direction because Tyra herself has lamented or bemoaned the fact that she feels "enslaved" by the weave and the Euro perceptions of what's considered beautiful and/or acceptable a far as A-A hair goes. "Right" ,for her, means maybe she can finally feel a sense of personal freedom for a change. Sometimes I do think there's more behind the "protective" weave thing. Do ALL African-American models, celebrities and entertainers wear weaves? The ones who have the naturally long, loosely curled hair or straight hair (usually the most coveted) don't tend to feel the same need "protect" their hair. Why isn't their hair falling out in globs from all the styling and changing up? I think it's mostly about the pressure to look a certain way. And it's rarely just a little weave. It's often looooonnng Euro or Asian/Indian looking hair. That pressure is very real and it can determine who gets certain jobs and who doesn't so many roll with the weaves. A girl's gotta eat. I totally get that.

  • Anonymous says:

Why is it such a big deal? It's her hair! She doesn't owe it to anyone. I honestly don't get what the big deal is. If she wants to be natural, weaved up, permed straight, it doesn't matter to me.

Celebrities shouldn't be held accountable for issues some people have with their hair. As if b/c Bey or Tyra decided to go natural, then one has validation for being natural. I'm natural but I wear wigs (well, I used to when I was able to fit this MASS under a wig lol) and I wear fake ponies too. Too each his/her own. I don't think it's "groundbreaking" either and I don't understand where this "step in the right direction is coming from either. It really is JUST hair!

  • KeetaRay says:

I will be tuning in, out of curiosity… I haven't seen Tyra's real hair since "Higher Learning".

  • Anonymous says:

I don't understand how wearing her hair natural, or with and without weave is really considered to be a step in the "right" direction. That statement makes it seems like if she wears her hair natural she will suddenly become a person less full of herself or suddenly make her a better person. Why should her hair define who she is or what direction in her life she is taking. I don't like weave neither, but as celebrities both beyonce and tyra are kinda obligated to change their styles on a very regular basis, and we all know how fragile our hair is. They both wouldn't have hair on their head if they were styling it without the weave.

  • Anonymous says:

Put me in the camp that thinks it's a step in the right direction even if it's just for one day. Even if it's just weave-less for one day. Maybe this will be ababy step for her with more steps to come. Maybe? About real hair vs natural hair, does it mean not straight with chemicals or hot comb/flat iron etc? I mean, wouldn't REAL natural hair mean we wouldn't use so much product and manipulate (released twists, plaits, knots etc.) to get a wave or loose effect that's doesn't resemble the real hair in it's completely natural state? That would be chemical free washed, conditioned and go–completely as is–very little product and manipulation. Color me confused about what natural or real means. Guess it means something different to different people.

  • curlychroniclees says:

she'd be so much hotter with her natural hair.. do it Tyra..but not just for season 5…permanently! pun wayyyy intended! lol

  • Hijabi Apprentice says:

I'm thinking she means lacefront/wig/weave free but relaxed.

  • Ms. Silky Coils says:

Lets see how long this will last if in fact she will do it all season. Tyra's career is based on looks, so as soon as she gets flack, she will go back to hair weaves and wigs.

  • Maria says:

I'm curious to see if she wears her hair natural or just takes off her weave and shows her real hair. I'll tune in to watch.

  • Essence says:

tyra is so full of herself. she's done this whole thing about being natural and being proud for SO LONG but yet she still wore a wig and weaves for 5 seasons? who cares tyra? this is OLD. she is always trying to do something that is ground breaking and its lame. She needs new ideas for her show. I'm so tired of seeing these young girls on the show talking about their sex partners and sexual text messages. At the end of the day these kids go home and so the same mess. NEXT.

  • Anonymous says:

Tyra knows how to make money, the ratings go up; the money comes in. I know many black women will be turning in to this. Me excluded, but I know you'll blog about it for me Nikki and I thank you, because I can't deal with watching her.

  • Skeeta says:

I agree with Naturally Leslie. When I read that statement, I got the idea that she will be wearing her REAL hair, not necessarily NATURAL hair. There is a difference. We'll see…

  • NappySince10/01/08 says:

Naturally Leslie, u may be right. it kinda peeves me when ladies say "natural" but they only really mean their "own" hair, and they're about to take to take the extensions out…

  • NappySince10/01/08 says:

i'd love to see that. I wish Beyonce would wear her natural hair already. She BEEN done killed me with that weave lol. Sorry, I just hate weave… ugh. Love Bey but I've had it up to [here] with that mess. n/w, yes. I really hope she comes through and represents.

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

Nobody's buying, huh?! We shall see :~D It may be hype, but I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. As Stephanie said, it is one step in the right direction, even if it is just for a hot second! I think she'd look stunning with natural hair.

  • JollyJoy says:

I will believe it when I see it, LOL!

  • Anonymous says:

I believe it will be a one time thing too, it's okay though cuz I'll continue to be natural, proud and love it for everybody!!!!

she wore her hair in cornrows for one episode recently and another episode it was back in a bun. i'd be really surprised if she went as far as wearing it out/loose though.

  • momo7 says:

Although I thought the hair episode on her Tyra show could have been MUCH better, I still like Tyra. The National Real Hair Day thing this season is cool though, even if it is just for a day, lol. Was the Chris Rock doc. a motivating force behind this decision???!!

On another note, Wendy Williams has taken over this summer! How U doin?!

  • Unknown says:

I don't believe it. I bet they just mean she won't be wearing weaves. But we'll see…

  • Carmel Stacks says:

I'm assuming it's gonna be a one time novelty thing.

  • Derdie B says:

I agree- its not groundbreaking but its kinda cool just b/c she is joining the family:) As long as she is doing it for the right reason….its good to see people are coming on board.

  • Anonymous says:

    OMG! How cool?!

  • Stephanie says:

Looks like this is going to be a one time thing, for the premiere only. It's not groundbreaking IMO, but it's a step in the right direction, I suppose.
