CN: How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 19 months starting November 22, 2008 🙂

CN: What is your current regimen?

Mostly I try to just listen to my hair to figure out what it needs. I cowash at least once a week with my favorite conditioner (Aussie, HH, or VO5), apply a deep conditioner (Elasta QP DPR-11), rinse, then apply BB Castor Oil Moisturizer to my wet hair and finally seal with shea butter. After that I usually braid it up or twist it and let the style set over night.

CN: How do you maintain length? Moisture?

Just by leaving my hair alone, which is really difficult for me because natural hair is so versatile and I’m always wanting to try something new. I’m a big fan of protective styles and lately I’ve been wearing twists a lot, so I think that has a lot to do with maintaining length. I try to moisturize my hair ever 3 or so days and seal with shea butter. To reset a style I just spray my hair lightly with my condish/glycerin spray, seal, and re-twist.

CN: How do you protect your curls at night?
I always sleep with a satin bonnet, scarf, or pillow case.

CN: What would you tell a new natural, or transitioning diva?

Don’t believe the hype that your hair has to be a certain texture or your skin has to be a certain color for you to be natural. If the people around you don’t support your decision, get on blogs, fotki, and other websites to find people that can go through the journey with you. At the end of the day regardless of what anyone else tells you, know that we are all beautiful queens exactly the way God made us. I admit from my BC until now I have learned so much about who I am as an African American woman and I would like to encourage others to take the plunge into discovering themselves as well.

CN: What’s the best thing about being naturally glamorous?
The freedom to just enjoy every single moment in life without worrying about my hair. I could care less if it starts raining while I’m out, I mean whats the worse that’ll happen? I’ll just end up with a totally different hairstyle and no one will know I didn’t plan it! My bf recently told me that he’s so glad I’m not afraid to get my hair wet or sweat, and he’s right. I feel completely beautiful in my own skin and that confidence is what resonates to the world.

CN: Anything else?
Nikki I love your website and you are really changing lives everywhere. Thank you for this opportunity and I cant wait to see your baby curly 🙂
