I’m ’bout ready to marry Salerm 21. There aren’t even words… it’s hands down the best product I’ve tried this year. On wet hair it’s slippery and moisturizing, and on dry hair it softens and adds shine. I’ve used it to roller set (per the suggestions of LongHairCareForum), and to dry twist-out, and my hair always feels soft yet strong. Definitely my new boo. It does contain silk protein, but it doesn’t appear to be bothering me… I’ll keep you dolls posted and share pics soon. I picked mine up from a local Dominican salon here in town, but you can also purchase HERE.

Jay, what are the Alter Ego products that you use?

  • Tony says:

My friend is using this and his hairs look very smooth and airy.

hey ladies! you can purchase this and other dominican and italian products from roundbrushhair.com great site with fast and affordable shipping. they are also very helpful online as well as by phone. ive been using them for over 3yrs now.

I have tried it out, but it seems my hair don't really like it if i don't mix it with coconut oil or almond oil.

    Hey Nikki,

Which Salerm product do you use and how do you use it? Is it the leave-in conditioner? My hair loves silk protein and the cones could help me keep my styles this summer so I am really interested in this product.

This is definitely the truth. I used this with and without a relaxer! I love it! Nikkii6

CG means Curly Girl. Ladies who follow this regime only use water soluble silicones and avoid mineral oil and drying alcohols.

This is actually an Italian Conditioner. The company that makes it is called Alter Ego. I have 4B hair and their products works wonders on my hair.

  • Anonymous says:

    what does "CG" mean?!

  • Anonymous says:

ladies pls weigh in, will this work on thick 4a/b hair?

  • LovelyB says:

Noooooooooooooo! I was actually looking forward to trying some Dominican products (I got my hair straightened (when I had a relaxer and was in BAD need of a touch-up) in Philly and LOVED the results — looked like I had a fresh relaxer.
HOWEVER, I am definitely trying to use more natural products. Parabens don't bother me too too much since they're a preservative but I only use Cones when straightening. :((
Any other suggestions for an equally amazing leave in or if any of their products are even a little CG friendly?

Yikes! Aside from cones, this product is packed with parabens! Heck, I believe it has all the parabens that currently exist: methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, isobutylparaben, butylparaben…Lawd!!! Okay, where is the mineral oil? I know its in here somewhere! LOL! ; – (

Sounds intriguing (says the PJ! :)) For anyone who has purchased this —- how much $$?

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

yeah, i forgot to mention that it is definitely NOT cg! Cones are all throughout. But my hair seems to enjoy cones!

Well, if you are really a stickler for natural ingredients, be aware that your Dominican products a)don't do that, b)the list is in Spanish so hopefully you can read Spanish chemical names if it matters to you (although since chemical/medical terms in English are Latin roots and Spanish is a Romance language, they'll be pretty similar), and c)aren't regulated by the FDA (some of them do have ingredients that would not pass muster here).
At any rate, I retired all of my Dominican products since I got the last of my relaxed hair cut off, but they used their conditioner on my natural hair before they blew it out and it always felt good.
Haven't used Salerm on my natural hair either. Have a partial tube of it somewhere but I can see how it would work well, esp. on fine hair or hair that likes lighter, less greasy products.

Wow, this sounds amazing. It's on my list. 🙂 ~KF519

I guess that's what happens when you aren't a diligent PJ- I forgot all about this product! I remember using it when I was relaxed and loved it!

Has any 4-type (a,b,or,c) ever used this with any luck?

  • DiJah says:

I wonder if they have this in the beauty supply store? I've tried their heat protectant spray b4 back when i was just transitioning, gonna see if they have this. If not then I'll just add it to my list of hair products to order online.

love the site Nikki, and i always appreciate your suggestions =)

  • NaturalNurse04 says:

I'm in Raleigh as well, what salon did you pick it up from?

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

I have, but not the Salerm… SheaMoisture leave in back in the day. Can't remember my experience with them though…

  • Anonymous says:

They use this as a leave-in at the Dominican salon I've been going to for the last eight or so years. I like it on my relaxed hair but the natural hair is not feeling it too much.

Nikki, Have you actually ordered from that site before? Last summer I went to DR on vacation and picked up two tubs of some random conditioner (Doctor Cabello Tratamiento Triple Accion, I think) and I LOVED it. I'm almost all out and I found it on that site but didn't know if it had a good reputation.

I love all dominican products!!! Salerm has been my leave in for three years (relaxed and now natural)…makes detangling a dream!!!

  • Unknown says:

lol at the afro gesture! I want someone to do that to me someday hehe. But longhaircare forum also got me hooked on trying out some Dominican products! Here is another Dominican hair site http://www.bluebeez.com/ . I haven't tried anything yet because I feel so lost without seeing the ingredients! So I am definitely gunna wait for some replies on this page

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

oh and my hair looked so good today a woman at the gas station honked the horn, put her hands to her head and made an afro shape, then pointed at me and gave 2 thumbs up, lol. I was rockin' today 🙂

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

@ Dolores, not at all. At take down, it feels a little 'slick' but after 10-20 minutes my hair is just defined and airy. Loves it!

@ Nidries, makes me wanna try that Wheat Germ Conditioner. I'm sold. This stuff rocks. I'll post pics asap!

  • Dolores says:

My question is: does it leave a "tacky" (or product-y) feeling in your hair when you do a dry twist out? I've been searching for a product that is not too wet (shrinkage), not greasy, and not tacky when I use it for a dry twist out. Deeva Curl Set it Free comes close, but is too wet. Twisted Sista is too tacky.

  • Nidries1 says:

Salerm 21 is the truth!!!! The Salerm Wheat Germ conditioner (http://www.amazon.com/Salerm-Conditioning-Treatment-Mascarilla-Capilar/dp/B000TFQH5I) is HANDS DOWN THE BEST deep conditioner I've ever used. I've never tried this product but I will with no hesitation, based solely on the results of the conditioner. It's amazing. Please post pics soon, I wanna see how your hair looks with this product. Thanks for sharing!
