My thoughts-
I’ve used this rich and creamy conditioner to aid in detangling, to deep condition, to moisturize post henna, to leave-in and to style. It moisturizes as well as MyHoneyChild’s Olive You Deep Conditioner, only
you can find it in on the ground, and, AND you can leave it in! I
used it to style my Wash & Go a couple of times in Brazil and
although it left me a bit more ‘coated’ and ‘product-y’ than other
leave-ins, it weighed my hair down a bit, smoothed the frizz and reduced the shrinkage situation. It also kept my hair moisturized longer, which is hard to come by and much appreciated.
As far as consistency, the ish is thick, but rinses clean, leaving behind shiny, moist, soft, detangled hair. I’ve purchased around 4 tubes in the past two months… I go through tons of it because it falls short in one category- slip (that seaweedy feeling you get when the conditioner coats the hair and helps you to more effectively detangle the hair). Now usually that’s a deal breaker for me, but it isn’t totally without slip… you just have to use a LOT, which would also be okay if it wasn’t so damn expensive! So yeah, other than that, it’s truly a wonder product and has nestled into my hair regimen as one of my go-to multipurpose conditioners.
Lastly, for the ‘conscious curly’ the ingredient list may be a bit unsavory, but for ‘the loose cannon curlies’ like myself *shrugs* it works! I definitely recommend it and will be purchasing it again.

Just went to their website and this product has been discontinued!! Not sure why since it had 5 stars and excellent reviews??!!
I may have to try this on my dry hair.

My Ulta had try-it sizes so I purchased a few way back when. It was meh for me then.
I saw the Ouidad+Redken post, purchased the ouidad and blew the dust off one of my remaining Redken samples.
My TNC did NOT look like that, LOL!
Oh well. *Sighs and sits back down*
Thanks for the update on one of the products you used during your travel in Brazil. I will be heading to New Orleans in August and will definitely need some frizz control for my 4A – C hair.
This is a great product, I achieved the perfect wash and go for the FIRST TIME this past Saturday and made it to 4 day hair! Thanks for the tip Curly Nikki!!!
Great review!
I need a conditioner or something that tames the frizz in my crown area as well. I will be search for this product sometime soon and for a conditioner that you probably kill to birds with one stone ( deep treatment and leave in) I am in. Thanks Nikki for the product review and posting the ingredients so I would not be worried if I could use it or not because my hair does not agree with certain ingredients.

I agree 100% with your review Nik! Excellent conditioner that leaves my hair juicy!
Ladies, drugstore.com has this product on sale for $15.30. http://www.drugstore.com/redken-smooth-down-butter-treat/qxp346137?catid=183520
Just an FYI in case you wanted to try it. 🙂
I love this stuff! It is pricey for such a small bottle but it's a "guilty hair splurge" for me
Thanks for the term "loose cannon curly". That describes me. I feel guilty sometimes buying the products with the "do not use" ingredients. It makes feel as if someone is going to bop me up side my head for doing it. But I do it anyway. If products with the "bad" ingredients works then so be it. I'm free to do me.
I buy it all the time and find it on sale all the time at trade secret http://tradesecret.com/

Hott dayum look at those curls girl! I was all up on my phone a few weeks agaon trying to fnd your post from Brazil about the products you used when I was at Ulta. I finally pulled up the post, but they didn't have the the Smooth Down. Sigh..
May have to give this a try! Thanks Nik! You keep me running to the store! LOL!

I am very tightly coiled and I tried this product when Nikki talked about it on her Brazil trip. I like that you can wash it out or leave it in. On my 4b/c hair it left it moisturized longer and my hair was super soft. I did'nt experience it weighing down my hair, my hair really loved the moisture and the bouncey results. It controls the frizz and rinses clean. I also tried the Redken Smooth Down conditioner which is great for Cowashes. Both products are a keeper for me!
I tried this product a few years ago without success. I'm glad to hear that it does work for some, though. If I recall, I felt like it coated my hair too much, leaving it with a rather dull appearance and weighed down too much.
Your curls look great but that is way too expensive for such a small amount. I will purchase it when it goes on sale lol
Your hair looks awesome Nik!
Lookin' good, Nikki:)!! I Love Redken Butter Treat!!! I use when I do straight styles.
The proof is in the 'pudding.' Those products make your hair look amazing!
I went up NY Memorial Day weekend and ran across the stuff for $15 bucks. I saw it and was like 'THATS CURLY NIKKIs STUFF'. I agree that is can weigh down the tresses. I don't think I'll get it again, its OKAY but ayh! Currently I'm #teamOyinHandmade.
Nik, that twist out looks ridic!! I guess I am a renegade loose canon curly!! LOL!! You've got me thinking about that Ouidad hydrafusion. Oh the cost though….might have to see about getting a sample from Sephora. 🙂
LOL @conscious curlies and loose canon curlies. Glad the products worked well for you.
Your hair looks amazing as always & if it works, like you said who cares about the ingredients. That stuff is a little too expensive for my wallet so I will have to stick with my Shea moisture. Thanks for the review
