How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for 7 years.
Did you transition or big chop?
My initial plan was to transition because I didn’t want to cut so much of my hair at once, but after two months of trying to tame to different textures, I big chopped to a teeny weeny afro.
Did you always appreciate your hair texture?
I haven’t always had love for my natural tresses. When I began my journey to natural, I was always drooling over the luxurious curlies on nappturality. So, I was quite a bit disappointed when my texture wasn’t the same as some of the other ladies. Now I have embraced my texture and I have more knowledge about methods and products that help me care for my hair.
How did family and friends react to your decision to go natural?
I had mixed opinions about my decision to go natural. Some were very supportive and others, well, not so much. I didn’t let the negativity discourage me at all. When I have decided to do something, I do it!
What’s your current routine?
My current routine is on wash day (which is usually Sunday), I part my hair in four sections and apply my pre-poo with shea butter, coconut oil, and aussie moist conditioner. I rinse out pre-poo mix thoroughly with warm water in the shower. Then I deep condition with either Aussie moist 3 minute miracle or Garnier Fructis Deep conditioner and add rosemary oil, peppermint oil, and olive oil. I put a plastic cap on my hair and sit under the dryer for 15-20 minutes. After I rinse my deep conditioner out of my hair, I use Curls Unleashed leave-in Conditioner & jojoba oil to two strand twist (or braid) my hair for the week.
What is your night time routine?
Each night I usually just add a little of my leave-in conditioner or any moisturizer and put on my satin bonnet.
What’s your favorite thing about being naturally glam?
My favorite thing about being natural is my hair health and versatility.
