Hair day with Mommy… check. Next on the agenda? Deciding between the swing set and the sandbox for my first meet-up.
Ridiculously shrill howls. Like, seriously ultra-high-intensity, ultra-unnerving, the-neighbors-done-called-child-services type screams. That’s what happens when I wash Boogie’s hair. She hates it. Always has. I keep my cool, employing a soothing tone & gentle hand, but all the while thinking #WhereMyDrank ?! It’s not that the water is too hot… or the shampoo gets in her eyes, she just doesn’t ‘like the wa-ooo’.
Today was no different. I washed her hair with Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Shampoo and followed up with their conditioner. As an aside- I will never be without either of these again. Seriously good stuff. While it marinated, like moments after completely losing her shit, she was splashing around, singing somewhat discernible tunes telling me about how she was ‘sckweeming mommy… I sckweem!’ *loud sigh* The rest of the process is very easy. She’s not ‘tender headed’ and so we go about the detangling process (Ouidad Double Detangler) with no worries, I rinse her hair thoroughly (more shrill screams) and then apply her leave-in– Curl Junkie’s Smoothing Lotion– and then we exit the tub (more screams if I unstop the tub before pulling her out) twist and scarf. Boom. Wash and repeat every 2 weeks… and in between we’re back and forth between protective styles and puffs and me having flashbacks of the screams that only a mother could love.
p.s. Shout out to jolieyolly!
