Were you a slow transitioner or a Big Chopper & why? (tell us your natural hair journey)
About 8 years ago I moved to Dallas, where the water is horrible. My hair never would curl and just looked dead. I gave up on my hair and just start wearing wigs. After about 6 months and a bad breakup, I just cut my hair off only to realize that there were these perfect little curls. And to think I’d been calling them naps all these years.

Had you always embraced your texture?
At first I didn’t embrace it because they were such tight curls and the longer my hair got the tighter it looked. I felt my hair would never look combed so I relaxed it a few more times through the years. Natural hair products have made such leaps and bounds so I finally know how to work with the curls.
How did family and friends react to your decision to go natural? How did they react to the new you? What was your response to them?
My family actually embraced the curlies before I did. They would be beg me not to cut, fry and dye my hair. I would always boast about how it was just hair and that it would grow back. I finally get what they were trying to tell me. I embrace the natural flow of my hair now.

Describe your hair (fine or coarse, thin or thick, highly porous, low, etc.)
My hair is a nice thick, tight curl that absorbs whatever I put in it immediately.
What’s your current hair routine? How often do you wash, condition, and style? favorite products! Deets!
I had been cowashing for years before it was a thing because shampoos were so drying. I’ve finally found a shampoo that is perfect for my hair, Clear Cleanse and Nourish Shampoo. I alternate between Eden Bodyworks Coconut Line and good old faithful Pantene ProV for Naturals. I let it air-dry with a little leave in conditioner and then stretch the curls out with a quick two-strand twist out with Eden Body Works Curl Defining crème and just fluff.

How do you maintain your hair at night?
I usually retwist with the Clear Ultra Shea Intensive Scalp Nourishment Balm on the ends.
How do you maintain healthy length?
I have not been great with maintaining length, the longer the curls get the crazier the tangles are. In the past I’ve kept my hair a bit short but now that I’m confident in the products I’ve found, I’m going for a nice Tracee Ellis Ross fro.
What’s the best thing about being curly?
Wash and Go’s. I literally hop out the shower, throw on some product and go. If it rains, my hair just looks even more gorgeous.
