My name is Samantha and I’m originally from Chicago, IL, though I am currently living in San Diego, CA. I decided to go natural after seeing a friend’s hair health and I am very happy I did.
How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for 12 years.
What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
I transitioned into natural hair. After seeing my hair damaged, I knew I had to leave the relaxers alone and I’ve never looked back.

How would you describe your hair?
I have very thick, curly hair.
What do you love most about your hair?
I love that my hair has a mind of its own and when something isn’t working, I just can’t force it. When the fro needs to be let out, I need to let it out. Haha. I also love how much my hair journey has taught me about myself.
What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
I don’t have one specific one, I have so many. The journey in itself is such a wonderful, freeing, experience. I have seen the easy and I have most definitely dealt with the difficult times. But you get through it, ya know. That’s the beauty in the journey.
What are some of your favorite hairstyles?
Flat twists, up-dos, protective styles, wash and go’s.
What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
I have definitely heard it all, but you can’t let it discourage me. I was confident knowing I had healthy hair. Not everyone is ready to embrace it and when I first went natural people were a lot more judgmental about curly hair, but you get past that. Now everyone embraces it. Things do come around.
What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
I only shampoo once or twice a month. I co-wash in-between with the Aquage Healing conditioner or Shea Moisture. I’m a huge fan of Dr. Bronner’s Organic Coconut Oil and I use that along with a curl cream / butter for all of my protective styles.
What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I love Napturally85, she’s the cutest, Curly Nikki, Mahogany Curls and honestly all Naturalistas inspire me. I never look at one as being better than the other, I’ve learned a lot from newly naturals and I embrace this journey with all naturals.
Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
Enjoy every inch of the journey. Our hair, like ourselves is a continuous work in progress, well worth every minute spent! Love your hair!
