I wonder how often your heart knocks and you don’t answer.
You know that if you answer, you will have to disrupt your life. You will have to create new boundaries and stand up and be seen. Say no where you used to say yes. Lose friends and habits. Dissolve pretenses. All of this takes energy that you think you don’t have.
You could surround yourself with people who listen to their hearts too. You could start using your superpowers. Allow yourself to get drunk on love and optimism and walk around like you have sunshine in your pocket and your only job in life is to spread it around. You could question your doubts and learn to ignore them because your heart is louder and your faith is stronger. You could find the courage to take risks and make art with your feelings and let the world know that you are here and this is what life means to you.
You could stop thinking that mistakes are omens and perfection is an actual thing and that criticism kills.
You could let your life play through the good and bad songs, not trying to rewind or skip ahead, belting out the stories of how you dared and life disrupted and still you would do it all again.
“I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am.”
― Sylvia Plath
