Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi, my name is Kiera Mare’. I am a 24-year-old pharmaceutical sales representative from Prattville, AL. I now live all over due to my work schedule. I have always been natural, but my hair has not always been healthy due to color, flat irons and lack of deep conditioning.
How long have you been natural? Have you always embraced your curls?
I have always embraced my curls, but in my early years, I did not know how to manage my hair.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
My transition was not from relaxed to natural, but instead was from color, and silicon based products to all natural products. My transition started in 2010 after watching two YouTube gurus Taren Guy, and Naptural85 (Whitney). I was inspired by how healthy and manageable our hair could be. So, I decided to try the regimes and products that they suggested and it was a success.
How would you describe your hair?
I would describe my hair as beautiful, healthy, versatile, big, long, exotic and unique. I love twist outs and wash and go’s they just really work for me.
What do you love most about your hair? What I love the most about my hair is the curl pattern, and the versatility. I love how I can straighten my hair one day and wear it curly the next day.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part of my journey has been learning to love my hair. I was teased a lot growing up because of my hair, due to the length and big curl pattern. Coming from a multiracial background and growing up in a small city in Alabama I always felt like an outcast, being that I was the only one that looked like me and had this type of hair.
What were some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
The only styles that I wear at the moment are buns for work, wash and go’s and twist outs.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?I clarify my hair twice a week with (Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar) diluted with water. I do not use a shampoo I only use ACV. I follow up with ( Natures Gate Conditioner Jojoba). I cowash my hair almost everyday with this conditioner, because it works the best for my hair. I deep condition once every two weeks with a homemade mixture that I mix in the blender. Those ingredients are aloe vera juice, raw honey, 1 banana, and coconut milk blend and strained. I leave that mixture on for a few hours then I wash it out. For styling, I use ( Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie) for my leave in conditioner ,and coconut oil 100% raw. If I want extra hold and more defined curls that day I use a homemade flaxseed gel.
