Tell me a little about yourself and your hair journey.
I am Shawnta Crook, born and raised in Louisville, KY. I’m a HEALTH NUT! I have been natural for three years now.
What motivated you to transition?
It’s really crazy how I was motivated to get my natural hair back. I moved out of my parents’ house, my mom was the one who always did my hair, so I could no longer keep up with my relaxers. I was tired of paying people to do my hair and I started to realize that relaxers were not the answer. I transition and started to wear my curls! I went to get a Devacurl cut. It was a great experience. She cut off my damage ends. I love my hair more now since the cut, I plan to go back in November or December for one more cut!

What do you love most about your hair?
I love that it can just be itself, no rules apply!
What has been the most memorable part of your journey?
The most memorable part of my journey was coming to the realization that I had to cut my hair to get a healthier look. It was hard. I did it. It worked!
What are (or were) some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
My favorite transitioning styles are the two strand twist and also @HEYFRANHEY twist, which kind of look like Marley twist.
What have your experiences been as a ‘natural’? Any memorable reactions from family or others?
I have plenty of memorable reactions because not only did I transition my hair, but I transition my entire lifestyle. My whole lifestyle is now natural, so people who knew me before were like “who are you?”. They’ve learned to embrace my hair and lifestyle.
What is your hair regimen (including favorite products)?
My hair regimen varies depending on need. I love AS I AM products, Shea Moisture and coconut oil. I also love food and essential oils as products to my hair.
Who is my hair crush?
My hair crush is everyone who embraces their natural look and values simpler ways of caring for hair!
What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
My favorite you tubers are @HEYFRANHEY and NAPTURAL85. Also I like Sunkissalba.
Anything you want the readers to know?
You have to love yourself and your style before anybody else! Also, look for some inspiration. Look for people who believe in what you are passionate or care about. You are so beautiful! Dare to be different!

My daughter is a young naturalista!
