
Showtime At the Apollo is returning to Fox on December 5th, hosted by Steve Harvey.
The show will return with a 2-hour special, and be followed up by a second, one-hour Showtime at The Apollo special in January 2017.
Writer and producer Reginald Hudlin along with the shows original executive director and producer Don Weiner, will both serve as executive producers and direct the special.
Showtime At The Apollo first aired as a weekly special in 1987. It aired from September 12, 1987 to May 24, 2008 with a total of 1,093 episodes. It’s amateur night helped launched the careers of many stars, including Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill and the Jackson Five amongst many others. Harvey originally served as host from the show from 1993-2000.
“I’m excited to be going back home to the Apollo to celebrate the history of this great theater,” said Harvey. “I have great memories from my time there, and this is going to be a homecoming party that you won’t want to miss.”
