3 Best Budget Setting Products for a Smooth Roller Set Without a Flat Iron

by Nikki Walton

Okay. I’mma keep it a buck. Nairobi is the best setting lotion, period. But regular use will leave you dry more than likely. If you have an event, or a photo shoot, and you want perfection? Nairobi. 10/10. The three on this list are easy 8s… and what you lose in perfection, you gain in some conditioning and nourishment. You can use them a little more regularly with less worry about drying out your hair, though I’d still say that I would still not go through seasons where all I use to style is setting lotions. The quick dry is fantastic, but I feel like my hair is also quick to dry out lol. So, without further ado, here are the top 3 that walk that line of aesthetic and hair health! My fave being Creme of Nature.

Lottabody Concentrated Setting Lotion: when the concentrate is the value

This is the original Concentrated Setting Lotion, not a ready-to-use styling milk. Dilution is part of the directions, which makes the bottle price only one part of its value.

The listed instructions use two to three parts water to one part lotion for normal hair, and four to five parts water for tinted or bleached hair. Follow the label for your bottle and your hair.

Apply to damp sections, distribute evenly and roll smoothly. Mix only what you need in a clean applicator rather than keeping a diluted bottle indefinitely. Stronger concentration won’t do nothing but dry you out.

ORS Olive Oil Wrap Set Mousse: when we want the foam already made

Olive Oil Wrap Set Mousse is a pump foam intended for wrapping, molding and roller sets. Olive oil and panthenol are included in the formula.

Apply evenly through the sections you are setting, keeping the ends smooth as they go onto the roller. Avoid adding a thick butter underneath by habit; decide whether your rinse-out conditioner already supplied enough softness for the set. When I’m roller setting, I deep condition, rinse clean and apply the setting lotion to naked hair for the bestest, shiniest set lol. That’s why I can’t use them often. If we roller setting, we roller settin’ and I need a clean base.

The ready-to-use format is perfect for those who don’t have time to figure out how much water to add for the right concentration. Just pump, apply, and roll out!

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Style & Shine Foaming Mousse: when a lower-priced foam fits

Style & Shine is a foaming mousse in the Argan Oil from Morocco collection, intended for curl definition and setting as well as wrapping. You can get a decent twist-out with this too! I twist-n-curl with it with great, shiny, fluffy, full-looking results!

FINALLY-

Choose the format you will actually use, prepare the ends carefully and give the set time to dry. An affordable setting product can earn its place through a repeatable routine, not an elaborate wash-day production.
