Wash day routine for 4B hair
Zara’s hair is an intriguing mix of type 4A to 4C. She kicks things off with her Sunday wash day, showing us how she sections and shampoos it before adding a deep conditioner and steaming her coils.
Should you be steaming your hair, too? Well, the process has several benefits including helping hair-healthy ingredients penetrate your scalp and hair shaft. This may be especially beneficial if you have low porosity hair like Zara does, meaning your hair doesn’t absorb moisture, products, and nutrients very well.

Apart from her hairstyles, Zara also shows us how to moisturize low porosity hair between washes. See how she follows up her wash day routine by using a leave-in conditioner the morning after to keep her low porosity hair well moisturized.
⇐ This is her getting all twisted on Monday, styling her thick, long hair in jumbo twists before placing them in a casual low bun.
Zara follows up by showing us how she wraps her tresses on Tuesday as she’s out and about running errands. She then treats us to the super cute option with curly tendrils she styled her twists in for a date on Wednesday.
She uses several As I Am products in the video during the course of the week. This brand has been featured in quite a few product roundups here on CurlyNikki.
Here’s a quick sample:
⇐ And, here is Zara with her “slayed face, slayed body, slayed hair!” as she shows off a simple but elegant hairstyle she chose for her violin performance on Thursday. (Did you know she is a professional violinist? Check out her bio below!)
FYI: Zara does not hide the fact that she (and her beautiful low porosity hair) LOVES hair grease (aka petrolatum).
But, she is also very aware that some naturalistas avoid grease, oils, and butters either as a personal choice or because of the effect these ingredients have on their hair. So, she’s got you covered either way!!

Next, Zara floors us as she shows off the full volume of her natural hair in a high puff in preparation for a Saturday pool party. Be warned, she does admit “I like attention” and so “I like my puffs super high!”
If want to find out more about Zara’s low porosity hair, her life, and her interests, she has a ton of videos for you to see what she’s up to.
For example, she recently shared the regrets and triumphs from her decision to pack up and move to Nigeria, Africa from America. There’s also a really relatable episode on Why she disappeared in Nigeria for five whole months. Be sure to check them out, too.
